A £55,000 project to turn a disused airfield into a woodland has started.
Over the next month 7,000 oak, ash and maple trees will be planted at the 3.25 hectare Hedon Airfield, near Hull.

The HEYwoods project has been organised by Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council and paid for by a number of private companies.

From BBC Humber.

At last.. some good news. Well done to them I say.
We should be planting more trees everywhere, including towns and cities. I'm convinced they visually soften the harsh landscape in town situations, making for a far more pleasant atmosphere in what seems to be the norm in the UK now - hard, characterless urban deserts.
I'd happily sponsor tree planting in my area!

Well, I've got one in the front garden and four in the back, so I'm doing my bit for the environment. I agree there should be more planted, even just to try and offset the CO2 levels a little, by a more natural method.

yes, in fact with all this global warming talk, it makes you wonder why there isn't a global push for tree planting...
unless I've missed something.

I make it at least 2, with one trying to out fight the other.
