A number of colleagues/friends of mine working in the US have written to me a number of times recently advising that the best programme on TV is a show called Heroes-this is on Sci-Fi channel on Sky Channel 129.

They say fantastic things about this programme which I have only caught snippets of to date. Apparantly the show is getting lots of wonderful things said about it in the media in North America.

It is on most Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Friday nights at various times-check the TV schedules.

Might be worth tuning in for although Sunday's night edition clashes with Lost on Sky One at the same time.

It is being shown on BBC2 from July after the run on SciFi finishes.

For me it has to be Life On Mars. I hope they release a soundtrack album like they did with Heartbeat.

My Advice? Watch Heroes.... It's great!

It deals with a group of ordinary people from various parts of the social spectrum, all trying to come to terms with different extraordinary abilities they have.... no silly spandex costumes, by the way.

Inexorably, they are being drawn together, to prevent a cataclysmic event- only a few of them are aware of this however, and all the while a renegade hero with the aid of a possible government agent seem intent on negating their efforts.

One of the heroes, a 17 year old girl, is the adopted daughter of said agent, and has no idea of the danger she's in from her own "father".

Can anyone tell I'm hooked??? Laughing

Life on Mars is a very good, entertaining show. I particularly like the gruff copper, excellent character.
But please can somebody tell me why the BBC comes up with a great idea, great show, very popular, then drop it?
As I understand, there'll be no more after this series! Typical.

Santa, I think it's all down to John Simm who doesn't want to do a 3rd series. The Beeb are planning a spin off with Philip Glennister to be set in the 80's called 'Ashes to Ashes'

That's about all i know, no idea how it will connect to Mars.

Thanks for the info on the soundtrack album Andy. I suppose the best way to end this series would be for the John Simm character to somehow be brought back to his own time.

I'm presently downloading Heroes S1 via Bittorrent at the moment based on recommendations here - but it's slow going at the moment (possibly due to me getting the entire run of Blakes 7 and Stargate SG-1 at the same time). Don't have Sky on principle and the Skiffy channel has a funny view of what constitutes SF at times for me to sign up for it. Hopefully I'll have got it all downloaded by next weekend.

Hello Mark, yes he did, but I can't wait and I don't bother watching much 'proper' TV through the week anyway. IIRC, Dr Who started on Saturday night and I completely forgot about it. If it was on, hopefully they'll repeat it this week sometime.

I don't like the vanilla discs that are rushed out into the shops to make money - I prefer to wait for the 2 disc sets, etc., as I sometimes like the extras just as much as the fillums themselves.
