Good news for those of you unable to hear 'B&Q FM'. Lynn Parsons has just been signed to the newly refurbished Smooth FM, along with Mike Allen, to do the evening show. Parsons weekends, Allen weekdays.
Should be an interesting listen when R2 gets a little irksome, with Dene, Goodier, Greening and Martin Collins on the roster... if they get the music right!

| The line up on Smooth looks very good to me-certainly they are going to give daytime Radio 2 a run for their money and dare I say it I think they will take/grab some market share from the BBC. |

Smooth Radio has signed former Radio 1 presenter Lynn Parsons and LBC regular Mike Allen for its new London station.
Lynn, who was a Radio 1 presenter in the 90s, and Allen will each host the evening show on Smooth Radio when it relaunches next Monday.
Lynn, who has also worked at Capital Radio, Virgin and BBC Radio 2, will host the four-hour evening slot from 8pm to midnight from Friday to Sunday, while Allen will host from Monday through Thursday.
The signing of the duo complete the lineup for the new Guardian Media Group-owned operation.
"The addition of Lynn and Mike completes the jigsaw and our lineup is a force to be reckoned with on the London airwaves," said the programme controller at Smooth Radio London, Gavin McCoy.
The breakfast show is to be presented by Graham Dene, following his departure from Magic, while chart show presenter Mark Goodier will feature mid-mornings.
The current mid-morning presenter, Kevin Greening, will move to the afternoon show.
The drivetime slot will be taken by ex-Virgin presenter Martin Collins.
Smooth Radio will also launch a new country music show to be hosted by BBC Radio 2 presenter Nick Barraclough.
The show will run on all five Smooth Radio station's across the UK from April 1 under a deal with UBC.

Looks like they are trying to hit radio 2 big time with some ex radio 1 & 2 presenters and some well known broadcasters who have worked on many London stations. |

Lesley trys to poach broadcaster, so why not other networks try to poach them off the BBC. |

I would think that specialist presenters have more scope to work across different stations. Its not as if Radio 2 would ever offer him a 3 hour country music show. I cant totally warm to Nick though. He seems overly restrictive in what he plays on his Radio 2 show. The same artists keep reappearing while many artists and songs never get a look in.

Oh, that's annoying. I much prefer Barraclough to Harris. More of a country feel, and less samey Americana. He's enthusiastic, informative, and not afraid to share his opinions.

Maybe they will rearrange the time slots & presenters slightly but Radio 2 will hopefully still play the same number of hours of country music. Over on the old boards a certain poster is campaigning for Nick to be kept despite the fact that he doesnt want to hear country music on Radio 2. How crazy is that?

Why not a permanent rock music show? A genre that is just as 'legit' as those that already have a regular weekly show.

Isn't there a whole network 6 MUSIC for this sort of stuff? Enough of daytime Radio 2 has be turned over to this already. no more please.

I suppose Allinson was a bit of a prog rock afficenado so obviously it is not in vogue on Radio 2 at the moment. But 6 Music and planet Rock would seem to cater for this market very well. Although I take you point about them not being on FM

Ian, All the good musicians either ran out of steam, drugs, money etc. Punk was a case of who could shout the loudest, shock the most and cause the most damage.

Well, I'd like to think someone would, since I still believe there's room for both the traditional country that Nick presents and the newer alt-country that Bob plays (the type of 'samey' music (!), which, incidentally, I am a fan of) without both being amalgamated or sidelined into the early hours or onto another station.

| Where does it say anywhere that Barraclough is leaving ? He's a self employe radio waller that just happens to knock up a 1 hour long show for transmission on a Wednesday night. What's to stop him doing the same for this Guardian crowd ?Hell, he can record it in his dinner hour, burn it on a cd and flog it to the Smooth network for more than I earn in a month. Nice work if you can get it. Guardian Media ruined a brilliant station up here in Lancashire when they dumped Jazz FM in favour of yet another 'Red Top Tabloid' station to go with Century. All IMO as per boys and girls.. mangetout mangetout ! |

the answer is ,strictly speaking I suppose, no,he will not be 'leaving' radio 2 as such.However his regular weekly show will end on april 11.He will present occassional specials on the station though. |

Does he still co-own it? I wasn't sure if his day-to-day involvement had ended. |

Smooth taking over Saga FM's frequency also meant no more Ashley Franklin on Sunday nights. He had an instrumental programme that included several prog acts, and he often played tracks from the Tony Banks CD, 'Seven', which as far as I know was ignored by Radio 2.

She seems to be on Sunday afternoons now on Smooth and would appear to have given up the 8-12 midnight weekend slot. She didnt last long in that slot by the look of things

| It looks as if they have been moving things around as shes also on Saturdays 10-2pm. Nigel Williams is covering breakfast at the weekends before Graham Dene arrives from Magic to take over weekday breakfast. Steve Hyland the legend from Mercury Fm has arrived to the network. The network is growing strong with some talent. |

So she is still very much involved with the station. Does she do weekday holiday cover for Goodier, Greening or Collins I wonder?
I dont listen to Smooth much. Just turned it on this afternoon for a bit of a change. Must see if Nick Barraclough is still on at 5 with the country music show.
