I've stayed tuned in - I think he's fantastic! He's playing u2 "Beautiful Day". Two hours of great radio following 90 minutes of Fluff. Why can't Radio 2 always sound like this on a Sunday?

I loved his gag just now! "I quite fancy a bit of Fenella Fudge!" Laughing Laughing

Maybe they are giving us something different?

I get like that what Michael said "as you get older and he says hes's in his early 30's", well I'am 37 and when you do have hangovers they do seem worse at that age. Michael isn't old, so stop saying that.

I missed the last hour of the show because I had unexpected visitors. I really do hope Michael Ball is given a permanent slot on Radio 2. I think he's much better than Johnnie Walker.

Hi Scott,

I left the radio on, but turned down, after POTP/Fluff and from what I heard of the show the music was OK.

I'm not keen on the phone-ins, like it was some woman who was 40 tonight, but that's just my opinion and lots of folk like these kinda shows.

I'll bet she was chuffed that Michael sang Happy Birthday to her, just like I would be if Myleene Klass sang to me Embarassed

I heard Michael Ball sing Happy Birthday to the lady caller - I thought that was very sweet of him (but also kind of corny!). Laughing Laughing

Could you imagine Steve Wright or Russell Brand doing such a thing? Rolling Eyes

Not awfully impressed with Michael Ball a bit too much chat about himself .

Have not enjoyed the phone in while he's been on and am sick of him going on about his disco failures. The songs that have been chosen lately have been ones that we always hear on R2 request shows. Nothing unusual.

Isn't Michaels producer Mark Goodier, as he always seems to refer him to as just Mark?

Hopefully, Michael Ball will replace the cringe-worthy Elaine Paige. I think he's got a good voice for radio.

In his dreams Very Happy lol!!! Very Happy

As much of his work for radio2 has been theatre based. I doubt he'd do Elaine Paiges show other than as I stand in (although she usually records then if she can't be there doesn't she).

I think he's doing a grand job sitting in for Johnnie he's bound to have things in common and worked with some guests. So it's not suprising that the chat is quite two way, I quite like that it makes more of a conversation than an interview. Meatloaf can be quite difficult sometimes but I thought Michael's chat with him was very interesting. The phone ins have been good each week there has been at least one track I personally have liked.

He can sing happy birthday to me anytime he likes Smile

I think Michael is a fine presenter with great charm. I think he should have his own show as well and the Sunday teatime slot would be perfect for him. I think Johnnie would be better suited to a different slot when he returns in the New Year.

Hi OD

I found a CD in a charity shop a few months ago called 'Songs From Whistle Down the Wind'. Michael performs, 'Unsettled Scores'. He's fab.

Elaine Paige sings "If Only" on it so I'm sure you will have it tucked away somewhere Wink

Also it was Petula Clark who was his Norma Desmond at Cork, for radio two concert performance of Sunset Boulevard. I'm listening to FNIMN to good show.

The photo of Michael and Elaine looks like it might have been taken at their summer concert at Bath this year.(I think he must have a portrait in his attic myself) Smile

Last I read he was still with her. I just think it funny that he and EP always seem so cozy! I'm sure there's nothing to it as I think she has a French toyboy...reading between the lines of one of her latest interviews. I saw a pic of Michael with Cathy at the Les Miz 21st anniv thing.

Yes, it's one of those Showbiz relationships - ie. very convenient for both, but not real.

Nothing wrong with that, Very Happy I have a 48 year old friend who has lived with her fella for several years, he is 18 years her junior and they are very happy.

Michael and Elaine have been friends for years.

Yes he and Cathy are still very much together, it was nice hearing the grandchildren getting a mention on sunday. Hope they didn't get to many gold stars taken off their chart during the journey home Smile

I don't mind that she's older--I think that's great. I was just suprised. I didn't know much about her so I looked her up and she's even older than EP! Good for Michael!
