The BBC has scrapped weekly editions of the pop archive show Top Of The Pops 2, reducing it to six special themed episodes spread throughout the year.
A programme looking back at winners of the Eurovision song contest will be the first to use the new format in May.
The corporation has also announced six extra editions of live music showcase Later... With Jools Holland, which will now run three times a year.
Later returns to BBC Two in May for its 29th series.
"This is a fantastic vote of confidence in the show and what it does for music," said the BBC's head of music entertainment, Mark Cooper.
"Last series we introduced debuts by Mika, Just Jack, Mr Hudson and more.
"With more shows and an extra series, we look forward to bringing more magic moments the whole year round."
Top Of The Pops was the BBC's flagship music programme for 42 years, but it was axed last June after viewing figures dropped.
Clip show TOTP2 continued to be shown, with occasional live performances showcasing new music.
The programme's new format will concentrate on "occasions, events and anniversaries," said the BBC in a statement.
As well as the Eurovision special, planned programmes include a retrospective of Sting and The Police to coincide with their UK tour, and a country music show in the run-up to the Country Music Association awards in November.

I bet Steve Wright isn't happy as he's been trying to promote this show since it returned. |

In that case, can we look forward to Messrs Evans and Brand doing themed shows?

Compared to some of the stuff on the Radio 2 bulletins this is Panorama grade material. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

You're right Ernie! I despair of some of the "news" items we've had on R2 lately, many of which are "plugs" for TV or Radio progs. News? I don't think so! _________________ MiS |

I didn't understand what TOTP2 was all about anyway. The repeated old stuff was alright BUT the BBC scrapped TOTP but then continued to record stuff for TOTP2 with the TOTP logo in the background. How did they decide who to record and why, who was it aimed at ?. Why setup a studio just for one or two tracks a week, were they using the material for other programmes or just to supply future TOTP2's ?
.. as for SW's sub-titles and commentary, best forgotten... |

I thought it was a bit uncalled for, ok you don't like him as a presenter but I don't think there is any need to resort to personal insults |

Actually I didnt notice that he had called him a prat until I read your reply so obviously it has entered my subconscious that it is a natural adjective to assign to Steve Wright. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Be honest, is there anyone who doesn't think SW is a prat?
Personally I would be hard pressed to find many more olieagenous broadcasters. _________________ MiS |

I wish SW would give up, then I could listen to R2 2-5. Hopefully then Evans will self-combust and I can get that slot back as well. These days I never bother with R2 in the afternoons. _________________ MiS |

Lets hope CE gets the 2-5pm slot and then MR the 5-7pm slot (I don't plan to be listening to the new 8-10pm slot) |
