I think it's now very obvious why Dermot's standing in for Ken - because there's no-one else free over the Easter holidays! I expect Maconie would have done it if he hadn't been starting his new show. |
I think as Mark G has gone to Smooth and know doubt he would of covered, they have lost a high profile broadcaster which happens and I m sure the network can move on from this? Richard can't always pre-record his BFBS shows, and I think he wouldn't want to do this. I have my doubts over Dermot, but maybe I have been a little harsh and should give the boy a chance and then see how he goes down with the listeners. |

I'm just amazed it's still on at all, really - Nigel Ogden must have something on Lesley Douglas, compromising photos or something!
Actually, Nige's new timeslot works in my favour as I'm usually in the car on the way back from work at that time.....I might have to give Nick Bailey a rest for a while! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

No idea, but the schedules after 2200 look to be a bit of a dog's dinner to me. At least with the current line-up you knew what was on during a given evening - I suspect there'll either be more trailers advertising the ad hoc programmes or we'll be expected to look at the R2 website to check what's on in any given week. Cue more inappropriate trailers in the middle of Alan Titchmarsh's show? _________________ Author: To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992

I presume the ad hoc stuff are documentaries or short series of 2 or 3 parts like the ones Gambo & other narrate. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

1900 Music Goes Round With Desmond Carrington
2000 Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie
2200 Nigel Ogden - Organist Entertains
2230 Ad Hoc Tuesday Doc
2330 Soul/Courtney Pine
0030 Janice Long
The Tuesday night schedule will be bizzare.
Desmond Carrington and Nigel Ogden at either end of the Radcliffe/Maconie show.
A documentary from 10.30 to 11.30? Who has time to listen to a 1 hour doc at that time of the night on a Tuesday?
And an hour of Mica Paris/ Courney Pine thrown in at 11.30 but broken up by presumably 5 minutes of news at midnight.
This is certainly one of the more unique schedules that has ever been put together. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I believe what John is saying. I like the way Lesley is thinking and I don't want to put her down as I enjoy her network. I say one thing is one person can't change a persons way of thinking and want to change things around. We need to wake up and live in the real world. It's nice to be able to have a live music show between the other specialist shows'!!! as they can give us an insight into the music which the listeners are interested in.
John, know one is taking the pee as you say? It'll be ok mate! |

Please explain what you mean. I've read this several times and I still dont have a clue what you mean, apart from the fact that you like the controller a lot.

What does that mean? Just because we voice a different opinion doesn't mean I am living in a parallel universe does it? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

What is she thinking then ?. Looks to me like they took bits of paper with show titles on, put them in a hat and then picked them out. Where there was nothing left , and no new ideas, they filled in with Ad-hoc.
Also, why do we need 2 good presenters on the same show ?. Spread the good talent around to fill in for the other stuff. |

And where would that be, then? A world of banality and dross perhaps? That might be your ideal world but it sure ain't mine.

The Canadian one is much more public service oriented. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

With regard to the postings concerning"Richard Allinson will never get a full time show on Radio 2 again etc" may I respectfully suggest "never say never". Indeed this statement might come back and bite you one day.
No one really knows what Lesley Douglas/her colleagues are thinking/planning no even Iain Smith! |

Mark,
it was only meant in jest. She wont have anyone else left to cover shows soon with Goodier, Parsons & Maconie getting shows elsewhere. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Ernie-By the way you never answered my post on another thread recently when I asked you do you listen to Richard on BFBS at all-if you do what are your views on the show etc.
I would be interested to hear your comments.
Thanks in anticipation. |

I can see what John is saying about listening while people use the computer in evenings. That makes sense, and I suppose it's fair enough that the BBC could try and work around that.
But just look at the schedule: it's a complete dogs dinner - shows are shoved around willy-nilly. There's no natural progression across evenings, let alone the week, and some shows that require real concentration have been shoved to the ends of the day, just when people are winding down and could do with simple music and chat.
Maconie & Radcliffe at the end of the day would be fine, but this is not good planning, not public service broadcasting, and not a natural evolution for the station. And, to be honest, I'm sick of you defending everything Lesley Douglas does as if she's an untouchable genius. |

I've heard bit of his show as I trawl around the internet stations. To be honest I think he is better on BFBS than he was on Radio 2. Maybe because he can do his own thing & has greater freedom. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
