Anyone else getting a bit fed up of TWs response to criticism of the BBC, eg Eurovision fiasco, Songs of praise etc etc ?. He just seems to make comments such as 'no one died' or 'the papers have nothing better to write about', which to me simply misses the point that listeners / viewers think they are being conned.

I agree with him, too. The red-top press have always had the BBC in their sights and they're hell-bent on taking a pop at any opportunity. I feel sorry for their gullible readers who assume this is the way that they should think as well.

I see neither the Eurovision Song Contest nor the Easter Songs of Praise as being a con. Why should they be? The ESC is a camp farce (that's why many of us watch - it would be boring if it weren't) and the Easter Songs of Praise is the result of good production planning, something which is very common in broadcasting. Licence-fee payers (and the red top press) would soon be moaning if the Beeb wasn't using such prudence. So what's the problem?

Good on yer Terry - keep at 'em.

Ella

I don't read the red tops so that isn't where I'm coming from. I just don't like his smug attitude of 'we are right and you are all wrong, so tough', the same way they trivialise issues / complaints on Points of View.

Having an Easter service made in November, by changing the audiences coats etc, doesn't sound right to me.

I don't see the problem with when they film anything, it's like complaining that Roy Wood recorded 'I wish it could be Christmas everyday' in August.

It's a complete non story.

It's not that different to the recording of lots of Christmas TV shows in August, September and October though. The only live TV at Christmas is national and regional news and a few other bits.

Blimey, even Jools Holland's New Year's Eve Hootenanny is pre-recorded!

The problem with Terry is that he likes to dish out criticism but cant take it himself very well.

Atvleast terry is standing up for the BBC, which is more than a lot of his more well-paid colleagues have done. There is proper news out there, the fact that the BBC had a bit of sense and used the opportunity to use such a well-known Cathedral for both Christmas and Easter is not news - it's good use of the Licence fee.

The money grubbing commercial sector has forgotten the true meaning of easter in an attempt to grab more of our money.

I may have been fooled for years and it's now coming to light BUT I would expect an Easter service on the TV at Easter to be that, not a service filmed in November when it was cheap for the BBC, and I am sure a lot of others think this as well.

I also expect other 'live' programmes to be live as well, but it now appears from the pudding vote fiasco this is not in fact the case either.

I can't see the problem with it. The same people would be moaning at the cost if it were live. If it's recorded and nothing specific needs to mentioned, I can't see a problem with where or when it was done.

I think you'll find that CDs of Christmas Carols are recorded in summer, so that they can catch the pre-Christmas market.

Does that make them any less authentic?

Ian.

And the Christmas ranges of most of the major high street retailers in the UK were selected in January, especially those that publish thick catalogues.

Planning is good!

They have easter eggs on the shelves on Boxing day which to my mind is far worse than what the BBC have done here.

How about 'Christmas special' edition of shows being broadcast in the middle of summer. That seems to have become a pretty regular occurrence within the last 10 years or so, when previously they were only trotted out at Christmas.

For once/the first time ever I think I agree with Nod.

Wogan is indeed smug-he has been that way for donkey's years.

It's his manner which I don't like-he thinks he's above everyone else and feels he is untouchable by the BBC. He should NOT be critical of his employer regardless of his personal views.

Sorry old boy you are on the way out.

Actaully he's far from smug, having met him on more than one occassion I can safely report he is a very nice genuine guy.
Besides leave him alone, he's ill, bless him.

He's what you might call "self-depracating", which is quite endearing. When he worked in broadcasting, Mr. S. actually played golf with El Tel a couple of times and reported him to be a lovely person. I believe him! (I do find his radio shows a bit boring of late, though).

It might signal the need for a change on breakfast in favour of a presenter who doesn't treat his/her audience like idiots. Which would automatically exclude Evans.
