Ok. Not exactly breaking any new ground or setting the world alight. Tragically I suspect LD might now have him in mind to inherit the slot.

Rumours abound R. Hammond is to replace Maconie on Sat afternoons.

Surely not Lady B ? I always enjoy Ken's show and the thought of Dermot being in this slot on a permanent basis does not fill me with joy to say the least..........

I agree. No, Kermit is just a hunch. Big tv name, mildly housewife friendly, young, she fancies him. The signs are there I fear.

Well on Friday, Ken said that we had the " work experience kid" looking after his show.

Sounds about right - just let him make the tea and keep him away from the microphone. Laughing

Ken Bruce has had 6 weeks holidays this year so far. We've had two weeks of Alex Lester and two of Mark Goodier followed by two now of Dermot O'Leary. Is Ken starting his pre-retirement wind down? Laughing

I thought he was pretty good. Less mumbling than usual, and quite lively. He's no Ken Bruce but it was very listenable (and he even dared question Gary Bones's song choices - which is nice).

I wasn't impressed but then I'm not a DOLE fan at all. Won't bother to listen until Ken returns unless the radio gets left on by mistake.

As for Ken's holiday's I would guess it's to do with school holidays, last one was around half term time. In any case he's got a long way to go before he catches up to the Togmeister as far as the number of holiday is concerned!

Well Mark Goodier has now left Radio 2 for smooth london. They can't keep getting Alex to always get the train to London as it costs the BBC twice, one to cover for him and the train fare. Dermot is one of the young voices on radio 2 and maybe he needs a try at daytime radio and Kens show is more ideal for him. Although I would of chosen Pete Mitchell. It's all about ratings and listener figures.

Although I would love to get down to bottom of how Lesley and her team decide who to cover for holidays, and what is the real reason behind it all?

Mark

I really don't think it will just be the cost of a train fare that will decide who will do holiday cover...... Rolling Eyes

Yes Maybe O'Leary charges 3 or 4 times as much per show. If that's the case Alex's train fare plus hotel room might work out cheaper. Laughing

Come on guys tell us why he's been picked? It's not as if he's cutting edge radio, just listening to him online. He's stumbling over his words a little, nervous Ok, he's trying to cut the links back slightly, but sounds rubbish, and he's sounding like he's hiding behind a wall spying on someone being quite so know one can hear him Laughing

Well, I listened to a bit of the show out of curiosity. He should have taken TW's advice during their link - "Leave, as soon as you can!". At least when he's on a Saturday afternoon he's hidden away where practically no-one's listening.... oh, it was just embarassing to listen to. Rolling Eyes

Yes, I think it was. My colleagues were being particularly noisy at that point so I didn't hear it properly.

Mind you there is a variety of talented radio broadcasters out there who she could bring too the network, but half of them are busy with other projects, or on commercial radio, and wouldn't work for the BBC anymore, or either.

Hammond has been signed up to do a series of bank holiday specials fron good friday to august -interestingly t his is what Evans was originally signed up for before getting his saturday show but I don't think Richard will be taking over the saturday slot before the autumn, and he is stil recovering from his terrible accident so may not feel up to doing a regular show

Yes there are. Why should it be a requirement to be a TV 'celebrity' to get a job on Radio 2 or 6 music? As I've said previously, someone must have given these celebs their big break on TV & radio.

I wonder if Ken will take over breakfast and Dermot mid mornings freeing up for X Factor and big brother? I hearing Terry saying this morning he's hosting the Sony awards with Gambo this year.

Well, I was something of a captive audience for Dermot at work this morning - I'm afraid his style and delivery fails to register enough with me. The only thing I did pick up on was after he played a Mika track and started going on about South By-Southwest - based on what he was saying, I felt it had been a missed opportunity to interview/plug unknown acts, not British ones appearing there which had already been hyped to death in this country.

I promise not to play endless jingles, talk over the records or sing along, and I will never do really rubbish Mick Jagger And Keith Richards impressions... Oh, and I'll pronounce words properly and not speak down to the audience like they're 4 years old.

And positively no performing seals will be allowed in the studio.

But most importantly................

I'd do it LIVE! Laughing
