Can there be anyone else!!!

He has been the face of Radio 2 for 30 years. Even when he was not on the network in the 1980's people still associated him with it.

Definately Wogan for me. I joined the R2MB all those months and months ago on the back on Terry... not literally of course, that would just be weird.

Same here, I think he's brilliant.

What worries me about Wogan, is that when he retires, no-one is ever going to be able to replace him. It's not just his presenting skills, it's also the way that everyone in the whole country immediately knows who he is by name, and that deep Irish accent.

He will be a hard act to follow, I hope he will keep going for a little while yet.

I can't be done with Wogan as much as I used to. His Janet & John stories, tired old gags and repetitive playlist makes his show sound so bland. I hope Jonathan Ross succeeds Terry Wogan. No more blandless in the mornings, just loads of sharpness! Laughing

I'm not sure what you mean by repetative playlist Confused In my humble opionion (which I grant you isn't worth much) the music has got better in the last few weeks.

Terry is a legend but the whole show revolves around listener input.
The same old contributors each day with funny stories.
It suits his style with records slotted in inbetween.
He will be a hard act to follow.
Will it be Chris Evans?
Will it be Richard Allinson?
Who knows but the person who does take over will not be the same and will take awhile to settle in with a new format.

I agree that El Presidenti's show is based largely on his listeners, which makes it still so worthwhile. I never cease to be amazed by the input from the regulars, the pseudonyms still make me laugh, and I had to literally pull over and stop the car when the 'Oxo Tower' Janet and John story was on. You can't drive safely whilst crying with laughter. Laughing

As Mikeraphone says (this is becoming a habit!), the same contributors (with a few exceptions) but they're still funny and even though I more or less know what's coming next I'm still hooked. The interplay between Terry and Boggy is wonderful - I'll be sad when John Marsh retires, never mind Wogan. Crying or Very sad

Stuff the 'Comedy Hour' - you could just podcast the good stuff from the week's WOTWs and broadcast that at 1300 on a Saturday - and I'll wager that the audience figures wouldn't go down! Exclamation

Wogan and Bob Harris are my all-time favourite R2 presenters.

Terry Wogan. I think he is just great - he is Radio 2.

I love listening to Terry - his show is soooo entertaining and funny - just like the people who write in. I also like Richard Allinson and Bob Harris (something about his voice makes his show feel very intimate).

Terry Wogan just always seems to have been there. My mother is a bit of a fan, so I've grown up with him. But I've not heard his show in a while, though - the mob I live with are addicted to Radio 1 <spit>
Has Tel's show changed since Paul died, i.e. does he still do those wacky songs from the listeners, etc?

I think the shows music has changed a lot since Pauls death. Although the listeners do contribute with some of their wonderful emails.

Well as Mark says the music has been updated fairly radically. Terry talks more directly to the listeners now whereas peviously he would banter to Pauly in the background. The new producer Alan Boyd does not speak on air.

I agree that the music has changed since dear old Pauly died. To be honest I prefer it as it is generally more positive, I do miss Terry's banter with Paul but I think 'Barralands' is doing a great job so far.

There was a song the other day, IIRC.

Very Happy Terry Wogan is the one who makes me stay with R2...The way he interacts with the listeners, the way he makes intelligent swipes/digs at people in authority...just make me think he is a genuine person...!
His celebrity doesn't seem to have altered him...or he's good at hiding it..! Very Happy

One of my fave listener pseudonyms is Heidi Vodka...is she on this board I wonder..?

'...Miss Tickles whose first name is Tess '

Sometimes I'm so dense it's frightening. I just sat here wondering what that meant - then I read it out-loud. It still took me a good 5 mins to work it out. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Don't worry, Nat - some of the ones TW reads out in a morning go 'whoosh' over my head on the first few occasions, he deliberately says some of them quick so that they're not *that* obvious.... Smile
