As a chronic lifelong intermittent insomniac, I'm quite accustomed to being downstairs in the small hours. I often use the time to surf the net and sometimes do a little channel-hopping on TV. Which is how I came to catch the end of an episode of Howard's Way on UK Drama about 4:30 this morning.
Had forgotten how wooden the acting was (it seems to have owed much to Acorn Antiques) but of course I had no idea what was happening. When Charles said to Gerald in an agitated voice "Gerald, he knows" I wondered who he was and what he knew!
How do others while away the time during an interrupted night?

For me, Alex Lester of course.
The chap I lift share to work with ( Mon,Tue and Thur only) was just asking me the same question this morning in the car. He'd been listening to Juilan Clary early this morning and said it was a bit of an eye opener. I wasn't really paying attention, cos Wogan was on , I kept turning it up, so I don't know more than that. |

I put on the radio and that helps me go back to sleep, it stops me thinking about other things I assume.
Sadly Alex Lester's show doesn't have this effect because I just get wound up listening to the drivel that is his 'odd couple' comp
Pete Mitchell and Tim Smith are good for putting you to sleep. |

You wouldn't want to know....
Seriously though, as a final resort after hours of tossing and turning,, I try to work out in which direction my bed has been pointing at all of the houses we have lived in during our marriage, (ie north to south, east to west) in an effort to establish whether I have slept better in certain orientations. Sad isn't it??
Since we have lived in 15 different apartments/houses, four different countries and two hemispheres during our 16 years together, I don't recall actually reaching a conclusion on this subject before I have eventually fallen asleep.
Well you did ask..... |

Mrs G listens to CD on her earbuds - this week it's Jim Reeves, as for me I'm usually asleep as I turn the light out. _________________ Geddon

I have been known to awake at 3.30 in the morning, usually if Mrs R gets up to go to the loo, and then I can't get back to sleep (her - no trouble ). Tv at that hour (Howards Way, Dangerfield etc) was dire first time round so I confess to resorting to AL, at low volume, and it usually does the trick, eventually. _________________ Ron |

Hi Ian-I find the messages posted by Noddy are an excellent way of sending me to sleep-better than any sleeping pills. |

R2 should have Mo Dutta and Pete Mitchell on at that time in the morning, every morning - a certain cure for insomnia! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
