Hopefully the role would co-ordinate the output between networks better so that there is less acting in isolation by networks or duplication.

I wouldn't hold up too much hope though.

Good timing when Radio 1 & 2 join forces to celebrate 40 years.

Will she be able to ask Andy Parfitt to take Russell Brand to Radio 1?

I can see R2 soon becoming a dumping ground for R1 jocks who are considered beyond their sell-by-date, i.e. they appeal to people over the age of puberty, plus the odd celeb who can't get a gig elsewhere.

The adverts will read "Talent or knowledge of music not essential."

As BB says, RIP R2.... Sad

I forsee more Steve Lamaq style presenters covering multiple networks.

Quiz question: name one of the few (if only) presenters to present shows on all 5 analogue BBC national networks?

That would be Gambo, I believe, thought I can't remember what he did on R5.

Steve Lamacq is okay, actually - I don't mind it when he sits in for Bob Harris.

Terry Wogan has done shows for 1, 2, 4 and 5 but I doubt he ever got a show on Radio 3. Can you imagine the Floral Dance Symphony on the Afternoon Concert on 3? Laughing

According to wikipedia (so it might be true Wink)

During his BBC career Bates was heard on all five BBC stations — apart from his stint at Radio 1 and his broadcasts for Radio 2 and Radio 4 (unusually before he joined the pop network), he also presented a Prom concert on Radio 3 in 1987 and presented a digest of the daily papers on the original version of Radio 5 (now Five Live) in 1990.

I can't see many other radio 1 jocks been pushed across to Radio 2. I can't see how much more she really can do with R2?

Does make you think what a piece of cake running R2 must be when she can afford to take on two other jobs as well!!

Depends how you judge the job - the RAJARS (which they must have known about) have shown another rise, so on that basis LD has done a good job Confused

Depends what the job is - if it's all about pissing off the older listeners and recruiting the sort of people who like Russell Brand - she's a real success!

Employing a few presenters you don't like dosen't mean she's doing a bad job.

I think it was Wogan who said recently, it's not about how successful Radio 2 is, it's more about how dire the competition is (As anyone who saw that Big L documentary will know!)

Success by default to a certain extent then. I tend to agree.
There are still pockets of laziness on R2 in terms of programming and scheduling.

Well I agree it's not perfect but I guess it would be difficult maybe even impossible to please everyone all the time.
