Tory leader's two days in school

Tory leader David Cameron has spent two days in a secondary school in Hull.
The party said he was there as a teaching assistant, taking part in two English lessons and doing playground and lunchtime supervision.

So he did not get the usual "visiting politician" treatment. In one class, no-one had heard of him or his party.

Mr Cameron said his key impression was that good discipline was paramount. He also learnt the local slang for playing truant: "twagging".

The unnamed school - "serving a pretty tough housing estate on the outskirts of the city" - features in Mr Cameron's diary and two short video films on his blog.

No bad behaviour is actually shown.

The school used to be in special measures, but a rename and revamp....

Another Tory attempt at 'anything the Royals can do'

The Duchess of Kent has been an unpaid music teacher at a local primary for several years and did not find the need to blog or brag about it

I think you miss the point. He was presumably there to observe & learn, not to act as a volunteer.

No, he did a 2 day stint as a teaching assistant.

Obviously, showboating on his website in John Precott's constituancy while his education spokesman denounces yet more old Tory Dogma is more important that tackling the government at PMQ's.

I will also reiterate my point about the Duchess of Kent and her stint as an unpaid music teacher at a local primary school.

He certainly was not there to learn. It was an obvious PR stunt - otherwise why would the media be there at the same time if there was no press call?

Of course it was a stunt. It was intended to portray Tory-boy as a man of the people, especially in Prescott's back yard. I'll bet he didn't spent the night on a run-down council estate where he was likely to lose the wheels off his car.Anyway, given the state of the local tory party, he will be the biggest Tory £$%&^%^&**^& in Hull for quite some time.

You are all such cynics. If you have no faith in elected politicans then how do you propose the country be run? I am reading an interesting book at the moment called What the Media are Doing to Our Politics By John Lloyd. It makes you think that if we are not careful the country will become ungovernable because of cynicism in the general public.

Webcameron maybe an elected politician, but not by the people of East Hull, nor, I'll bet were the students asked if they would be willing participants in his late brag ( sorry, I mean Blog). Self - engrandisment is all very well, but not at the expense of the general public.

As for Churchill, at least he had a proper job before becoming a politico. He also headed a National Government during the war, but when the country needed reconstruction, the turned to Clement Atlee, Nye Bevin etc.
