Johnnie Walker (Radio 2) is a bit laidback for weekday mornings. You notice this only because he is sitting in for Wogan, whose breakfast show is full of peculiar yet catchy fizz. Listening to Wogan is like biting into a rather lively pickled onion: an acquired, unique taste that's surprisingly enjoyable. A couple of hours with Walker, who says things like "here's a lovely old song" as he introduces another soothing tune, is like an almond croissant, sweet and yielding, and a more leisurely breakfast choice.
I tuned in yesterday, and kept forgetting the urgent morning routine, lost in Walker's world, with its tales of Sarah Kennedy exaggerating how many grapes he had pilfered from Ken Bruce's "fruit plate". Then there were the anecdotes about Walker signing books in Swindon, and relishing "the smell of gourmet sausages" at the Chelsea Flower Show. Add to the mix an in-depth, snoozy weather report ("it's been very up and down this year") and an opening track from the least demanding corner of Simply Red's back catalogue, and the effect is decidedly, indulgently soporific.

You're not seriously telling me you'd believe anything a Guardian journalist writes, are you?

Was this person litening to radio 2 at the same time as I was?

Maybe she was still suffering from Mogadon overdose

The writer needs to remember that there is a significant element of the Radio 2 audience that cant handle too much excitement or ad lib entertainment. These are the kind that like the talking ipod radio style.

She seems to have a problem with Johnnie's laid back style, maybe Chris Moyles is more her cup of tea. Laughing
She also seems to miss the point that he is chosen to stand in for Terry because their style of delivery is similar, eg laid back, easing you into the day.
Loud and excitable dosen't work for me at that hour of the day as with many other radio 2 listeners.

TTS,
Walker and Wogan are not similar. Wogan has a bit more bite in his delivery. Walker seems to have left his teeth at home on the bedside locker.

What I meant was their style tends to be generally relaxed, I agree Terry's delivery has more bite and it is much better but I don't think you can say either of them are loud and excitable. Very Happy
By the way how many times did Johnnie try to play the same record twice last week Laughing still it gave me a laugh. Laughing

I like and respect Terry Wogan but I do not often listen to his breakfast show now as it is just a bit too laid back for me and I get fed up with the emails from the same small band of listeneres with silly names. However, I have listened every morning to Johnnie and have enjoyed it immensely.

By the way, I am meeting Johnnie Walker on 4th June!!!

He even got Ken Bruce in to give him a lesson on it! Johnnie said he likes to do it 'doors to manual' style like in the old days, whereas Ken leaves it on automatic!

I think the review is wrong - I find Johnnie to be lively and fun at Breakfast. Especially compared to his Sunday show, and to Wogan's relaxed style.
