Thats according to an interview with him in today's Guardian. Says he is after a daytime show in the future.

And before Mark says it (or maybe in response to Mark) he says that he sees no reason why he cannot play records and talk between them from a studio outside London. Laughing

What Radcliffe wants is not necessarily what Radcliffe will get.

So after a month with Maconie he now wants to do his own daytime show.
Maybe him and SM could host drivetime together.

Can't really see Steve Wright jacking it in and if he did i would much prefer Richard A to Radcliffe anyday.

We shall wait and see!!!

Radcliffe tried to replace Evans once before and failed miserably, so I dont think he will try it again Smile

If you're talking about Radio 1, then MR was the first to say putting him on a breakfast slot was a bad idea- it wasn't a slot he chose, rather he was pushed into it by BBC management, despite him telling them it wouldn't work prior to the move.

In the afternoons, however, I'd happily have him on air from 2pm to 7pm!

Make it 5 - 7pm and it'll be fine by me... in fact it'd be great!

I've had the mis-fortune to listen to the early part of Drivetime for a couple of nights... Sad still frantic as ever Rolling Eyes but I do wish he wouldn't keep sucking air through his teeth between manic sentences.
Calm down Chris, calm down...

In fact he will be hosting breakfast from Manchester when Wogan gives it in. This was spoken about in a thread on the old message boards over a year ago. I can't remember who was talking about it, but Radcliffe could host drive time and Evans breakfast?

Mark O-I don't think so-I really can't see this happening.

Quite simply Radcliffe is not up to it.

Well I reckon he could make Driveltime Drivetime again and make the Big Show absolutely huge, with or without Stuart. However, I just can't see either happening in the near future. Best of luck anyway Radders.

Only just discovered yesterday. All those months Stuart covered Drivetime - and he doesn't drive!

I love it! A Drivetime pedestrian!

I have a feeling that he is putting a marker in the ground so to speak. To me its clear that the only daytime slot he could hold would be the relatively soft mid-afternoon one. No way would a controller but eith Maconie or Radcliffe on either breakfast or drive.

Part of the problem I think is that together they're not terribly 'female friendly' which seems to be the 'in' thing among radio focus groups. This to me would go against any hope of a daytime slot.

NB: Martin Kelner was recently fired from BBC Leeds for not being 'female freindly' enough!

No, it's true - he's mentioned it on Drivetime a few times.

Don't forget that the afternoon Mark & Lard show was the second highest-rated show on Radio 1 at it's peak (but, yes, it seems unlikely they'd get breakfast no matter how popular they can be).

Think you are right about R2 not being very female friendly these days.

Where does Mark O get his 'facts' from about the Wogan show replacement?

I wonder what sex Steve Wright appeals to? Its a mystery to do me. Vine isn't very female friendly either is he? Ken seems to appeal to women though for some bizarre reason.

I guess one could argue Allinson's too female friendly? He does strike me as being more a chick jock.

Interestingly, for all his 'male friendly' image, Baker does attract a large number of female callers to his show.

He's much softer now and it's interesting just how much of his cockney accent has been eroded over the years. I was watching a clip of him on You Tube from circa early 90's and his Jameson-esq accent was something even I found a little too much. There's hardly any trace of 'Cor Blimey' in there now! Bit like Wogan I guess. Listen to him circa mid 70's and he sounds like Paddy McGinty! Now, you'd be hard pressed to say he was Irish if you didn't know... Apart from when he affects it obviously.

I can see Radcliffe covering for Chris if he's allowed to present from Manchester in the future, as it really dosn't matter who presents the evening show on their own?

Next Monday Stuart covers for Chris for two weeks. I'm sure Mark will be lost without his mate.

It does call the question what was the evening show designed for if they have to split when Chris is on his holidays? One looks like a lame duck and it wont last like that.

Nah, he's very blokey really (particularly in choice of music), and the female callers don't seem to warm to him.

Afraid to say, having listened to a few shows, it does sound like it's Radcliffe's show with Maconie chipping in, rather than what it should be - an equal partnership. As a result Maconie's contributions sound a little apologetic and not nearly as comfortable as when he's doing his own show.

Hmm....

Maybe Radcliffe will have a guest presenter in when Maconie is away covering for Chris?

Is it me or does that column picture of Maconie in the Radio Times (page 27) make him look like Ian McKellen ... (in all his campery!)

Jolly good!

Then there were the Radcliffe and Maconie publicity shots which made him look like Quentin Crisp! ....

I suppose there is too many blokey DJ's on Radio 2. I thought DOL and Evans were attracting the female listeners? Maybe as some get older they dont attract the females? If Wrighty is still wearing the yellow glasses then no way

D'er, erm, erm, d'erm, d'uh, erm, er, um,um.... I hope you are kidding, the bloke's a bloody useless amateur. Radcliffe makes me almost ashamed to be a Northerner, this 8 o'clock gig he has with Maconie is poor enough with Stuart propping him up but daytime ? on his own ?
Get Lady Spud's mate in, better yet swap him for Radcliffe, flirt Radcliffe on the locals and get Baker in.
