Radio Times is showing Clare Teal as presenting the Dawn Patrol on Friday 22nd June. That's an interesting selection for a stand-in.

12:30am Janice Long
3:00am Nemone
6:00am Clare Teal
7:30am Wake Up to Wogan

More female presenters coming to the network to present live shows? Has someone being reading some of the messages, as we did mention this some time ago over on the old boards?

Keeping the women presenters on shows in the middle of the night though, like they have to fill a quota but they dont want it to inrterfere with the ratings Laughing

It's always been like this when Janey was doing it. Anti women there Ernie? Laughing I think Radio 2 are trying to keep up with the trend as a lot of commercial radio stations have women presenting over night shows. I am sure we will hear a female presenting Ken Bruce show one day?

Me anti women? Shocked I'm not the one doing the schedule. They have a woman boss. Maybe that's why? Wink

An extremely good one, as well, whether doing traditional, swing, big band, or, on her latest album, the more dreamy lounge/easy listening stuff. The original songs she co-writes are pretty good, too.

As to her presentational skills, I've really only heard her in programmes that are obviously scripted and she's very clear, but not very warm. It will be interesting to see how she communicates and interacts with an early morning radio audience and the news/weather readers.

I bought Clare Teals new album after hearing her new single on Wogan.
The album is not Jazz at all and I would describe it as a cross between The Carpenters, KD Lang, and Swing Out Sister.
She has a lovely voice especially on the title track Paradisi Carousel.

Well, that's recommendation enough - I used to like Corinne Drewery's voice in the latter, although SOS seem to have dropped off the map in recent years (although they're currently quite successful in Japan of all places).

I heard the Aled Jones interview in fragments, as we were at a B and B for a few days.

How did Desmond Carrington become involved in her career?

Ian.

She had a dry run this morning and, yes, it was her very first live radio presentation. I didn't hear very much of it and she will obviously need time to settle - what I did hear sounded uncomfortably close to Elaine Paige territory.

Interesting that she got Nina Myskow to do the newspaper review.

I thought she was dire. Usual stand-in stuff of think of a subject, today was 'handy hints' and then just read out what the listeners text in.

(who are these people who can be bothered to send in this drival at 06:30am , or do they just make it up ?)

The newspaper bit was terrible as well with Nina er-er whatever reading them out.

10mins and I hit the off switch. Crying or Very sad

Come back Sarah Smile

I think Nina was trying to take the p out of Sarah how she reads the papers. The joke wore off after a while.

I much prefer somebody who can read a full sentence without stuttering. I think a separate newspaper reviewer makes a lot of sense.

Whilst I wasn't too fussed with the texting in nonsense, I felt her delivery was very different, it was amusing to hear a lass from 'oop north' on the radio - and that she kept referring to everyone as "t'nation". Smile

I wouldn't be averse to hearing her again.

Nothing wrong with the northern twang, but if she dropped the text-in drivel and the newspaper reader things might get better Smile

I heard most of it this morning. She sounded like someone playing at doing a radio show. It reminds you of what a good communicator the Cardigan Woman is! A bit of a surprise to hear Kate Adie doing the paper review. Quite jolly though.
