We may grip at her ways she presents her shows. One thing I say Sarah has enormous figures - no one is really sure why but she delivers Radio 2 a huge audience. |

>>One thing I say Sarah has enormous figures<<
I wondered what you meant there Mark!!!
Yes I wonder about Sarah's audience. Is it predominantly housewives and early-up teachers, and the over 50's? Are there thousands of truckers tuned in on the M6???
I don't mind her at all but nowadays rarely up early enough ( I do use Listen Again feature if something startling has been said _________________ -

At that hour of the morning there's usually other things to do so she's on in the background rather than being listened to seriously. This is as well because she's not the most fluent of presenters, and the fact that she spends so much time bumbling through the morning papers, religious and entertainment news means that you quickly tire of her.
On the other hand she does play a very varied selection of music and, quite apart from the musical showtune, there's usually at least one oddity that you won't have heard for a very long time that brings a smile to your morning. _________________ Ron |

Spot on, Ron - most mornings I couldn't tell you what she was talking about (I find out from the message board!) but I could usually remember at least two or three songs she'd played.

I've been listening to SK for about 6 years and for the most part I enjoy her rambles through the morning. Just now and again though, she does grate - such as when she's doing the newspaper review and is clearly completely clueless about some things _________________ ~*Rachel*~

Sk's show is just plain odd; it's not really long enough to call a show.
Dawn Patrol: Programme Schedule:-
1. Say hello
2. Talk about the ( awful) weather and the puddle.
3. Some music <note to presenter: remember to say afterward :-I won't insult your musical intelligence by telling you who that was>
4. Talk about cats.... < Note to presenter :- the odd meow will help create the right mood>
5. Introduce PFT
6. Some music.
7. News
8. Lynn is on with the travel < note to presenter: Hackles up and fingers on the silly noise button>
9. Read a few obscure stories from the Papers.
10. Some music.
11. News.
12. Talk about cats and throw in a few personal digs.< if time:- read out a few made up, SWs to you e-mails>
13. Insincere compliments, say with sincerity <Lynn is on the way>
14. Lynn is on with the travel < note to presenter: Hackles up and fingers on the silly noise button again>
15. Introduce Show tune.
16. Show tune.
17. Put the listeners out of their misery - let them know TW has arrived. <phew>
18. Say goodbye
That's it!
It's hardly worth the effort . There's a guy here at work, has longer, and no doubt more interesting fag breaks.
I'm not a big fan of SK; not even a small one, but as it takes longer to tune to another station and then back again in time for Terry than her show lasts, I put up with it. |

Rachel, you're not SK's producer by any chance? That list is uncannily accurate - apart from the tagline "See you tomorrow, if we're saved" right at the end.

Very *very* occasionally she says something that makes me laugh but as you say, my radio (especially the one in the bathroom, which doesn't have a digital tuner) is stuck on R2 and I can't be bothered/can't really find an alternative at that time of the morning. In any case, I only listen/half listen to her show in 'windows' whilst I'm getting ready for work and driving in - 0600-0610, 0630-0640 and that's about it.

co-incidently, I have produced ( television programmes) in the past but I was never any good at it....... got sacked... errrr.... made redundant..... so,.. I do something else now for a different, organisation.
Yeah Sk's show is all over in a quick shower, blast of the hair dryer, cup of tea and a plonk on my piano before leaving for work.... |

Excellent post. You have got the show down to a tee. I think it is long enough for some of us.
Although you forgot the name dropping section. CE has one also. However his name drops tend to be from Heat magazine. SK's are from Debrett's. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Rachel,
Regarding the list of points you drew up on the SK show, may I add a thought about one of those, namely #9- reading obsure stories from the Papers.
What is her native language? You'd think it should be English, but given the number of stumbles over the text she is reading, & mispronunciation of words, you begin to wonder. |

Rachel (1st Lady of R2OK), you missed out 2a: Brussels Sprouts - she was going on about them again this morning (Brussels Sprout cake yesterday morning, IIRC)....

I don't mind SK, but as I don't like cats, I don't think we'd have a lot to jaw about if I met her in Aldi. I've always felt she was the warm up act for Terry, in the same way of course, Terry is the warm up man for my Kenny _________________ Eternal nothingness is fine if you happen to be dressed for it. |

Yes - Ken is the star turn for me as well. Terry's always mumbling into his snorkers too much to be heard above the din of husband and kids.
I really enjoy Ken's show, in fact there's nothing about it (apart from my singular failure to ever get on PopMaster), that I can criticise _________________ ~*Rachel*~

Natasha,
Do you seriously think SK would be seen shopping in Aldi (or Lidl, or Netto)?

Yeah Cherskiy, she does mention those all too often but the date she says, to start boiling them always changes:-
I guess from the Producer's point of view, that helps to differentiate one show from another.
Oh and don't forget to keep topping them up............
I think the earliest date I've heard that sprouts should be put on to boil is April 12th ........ you're missing a trick Sarah ... put them on in January and get a whole extra 3-months of show material, free....... |

Hyacinth Bucket springs to mind.... (She does mention 'Sainsbugs' quite often so you could label her as a "low-rent M&S sort". I can't remember the last time I was in an M&S....1995?)

Oh yes, bung in Waitrose and John Lewis as well. I think the Sainsbugs name-dropping is a ruse to make us think she's 'one of us'
I can't believe she now lives in the same county as me...! Although I was amused that she had to be dragged almost kicking and screaming out of Warwickshire. Bedfordshire is the 'nowheresville' of counties _________________ ~*Rachel*~

No, I'm Lancastrian, I'll keep her in Bedfordshire thanks.
By the way, someone on another messageboard has said that Aled Jones is standing in for Sarah on Christmas Eve, doing a pre-record for Christmas Day and standing in for her at some point in January. Let's hope this time he makes it - he's not had the best of luck recently with a chest infection and his achilles tendon going. _________________ ~*Rachel*~

Did anyone hear her this morning at 6.40 say that people have emailed her to complain that she has not been playing ENOUGH sound effects?
Are these e-mailers barking mad?
She then played a menagerie of animal noises for what sounded like 15-20 seconds before throwing to Lynn.
Funny how she responds to that complaint, but not mine? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I saw Aled Tuesday. He is not exactly standing in for Sarah on Christmas Eve - it is a Sunday so he is doing his own show, live. Christmas Morning is indeed pre-recorded. And yes he is standing in for Sarah for 2 weeks in January.
The Achilles tendon tear is a nasty one - he is in plaster up to the knee, looked to be in considerable discomfort and may need surgery. So it cetainly has to be best wishes for a full recovery |

No he hasn't (had the best of luck). But I think this is probably more serious. Aled is always cheerful - and really wasn't on Tuesday. He has had to pull out of the pantomime he was in, at least for some weeks and probably for all of it. (See Richmond Theatre website) He had to pull out of the Choir of the Year competition in Cardiff last weekend also (radio 3).
I doubt he would have stood in for Sarah if this had not happened, actually, as he could not really have been up bright and early to do her programme, and then do matinee and evening panto performances! But obviously he can do this sort of radio as once in the studio he can presumably sit and do it, but anything active will be a problem for some time. |

Ernie,
Maybe that was her response to your (and others judging by the messageboard) e-mail.
Must be tempting having taken so much stick on the boards, to do exactly the opposite to that requested. _________________ SEX IS NOT THE ANSWER!

Not very professional is it. Its like Eric Cantona diving into the crowd.

You're dead right Ernie , my Horses love the sound effects, in fact, I was just saying to Frisky ( that's my No1 horse and best friend) the other day: ... Frisky, I said, should we write to SK and ask her not to make those silly noises? .....Frisky replied .. Neighhhhhhhh |
