Does the BBC have a dress code for their DJ's/Presenters?

I was surprised to learn that John Humphrys and Jim Naughtie tend not to wear ties on the Today programme.

I think I am right in saying that some of the old guard still adhere to the "good old days"-David Jacobs- wears a tie I believe.

I seen Wogan & Vine wearing a shirt & tie on the webcam. Wasn't it a tradition in the old days of BBC radio newsreaders wear collar and tie / bow tie?

You do see a lot of broadcasters wearing shirts and jumpers with baseball caps on commercial radio webcams.

Maybe this could be a good topic for JV show? Laughing Laughing

Standards Ernie-I joke.

Seriously though what about those folk who are guests who drop by to be interviewed etc.

Indeed let me quote you the rules as they are in play at a rival station to BBC Radio 2

"All members of a this radio station are expected to dress appropriately whenever on company business. Dress as if each day you might get a surprise visit from a VIP-because each day you probably will: whether it be listeners or advertisers (current or future!). This also applies to presenters and those attending broadcasts and promotions.

On the radio station, or at outside events, no T-shirts or other garments should be worn bearing the logo of any broadcast related company other than your own radio station or group. No decorated, faded, dirty or patched casual clothes should be worn when on company business. (faded, includes faded company attire!).

Radio is an image business. Team members in all departments may be expected to meet the general public. Therefore, visible facial or body jewellery (for example: rings in lips, tongue, eyebrow or nose)-other than single earrings-should not be permitted.

There were other rules covering smoking, behaviour during OB's and other public events, plus policies covering mobile phone etiquette and company cars".

I could go on but hopefully the above gives you a gist of what I was driving at originally.

NB-Richard Allinson should not have any problem with Lesley Douglas on the clothes front as he used to be a male model in his younger days- his clothes image is pretty important to him.

I agree about the body piercings, I think they look horrible. And I agree if they are to meet guests they should look resonably turned out.

Don't announcers still wear Black Tie when behind the mic? I'm shocked!

They're on radio, which means no pictures. What does it matter?

You should see the state of most of the production and technical staff!

The best way to iron a shirt is just around the collar, and then wear a jumper on top of it Laughing
