Al Qaeda are now, not for the first time, threatening to launch attacks against the UK purportedly in revenge for the knighthood conferred on Salman Rushdie.

No 10 is responding by declaring that terrorism will not change our way of life.

But Ministers etc have round-the-clock protection, so it's easy for them to say that.

The outlook for the rest of us might not be quite so chipper.

And, whilst I agree that the issue of whom the UK chooses to honour is none of anyone else's business, I'm sure I'm not the only one to be puzzled about why this was conferred.

Ian.

Al-Qaeda now need to sabre rattle as their ground troops on the july 21st bombing attempts have been shown to be totally incompetent.

I'm actually quite amused that Al Qaeda are taking such an interest in our honours system. Laughing Would they have been this annoyed if David Beckham had been knighted Laughing

No, but I would have been - it could lead to a bombing campaign on Old Trafford (any excuse)
