The BBC spent £68,000 entertaining MPs and other guests at this year's Glastonbury Festival.
Five MPs were given 10 tickets, each costing £255, and they and other guests were invited to receptions in the evenings with food and drink provided.
The BBC said it did not provide any travel or accommodation for its guests.
"Glastonbury is the biggest popular music event for the BBC and we cover it exclusively on TV, radio and online," said the broadcaster.
"We also use the festival to strengthen relationships with a wide range of people we work with throughout the year," the broadcaster added.

So what? I don't see what point you're trying to make..... Nothing unusual about this. |

Yes, one of those BBC defenders. Maybe the person is lying about working at the BBC? |

Eh? A "BBC defender"? Yes, I am indeed a BBC defender - someone who's fed up with seeing politicians and press constantly eroding the BBC's status as a once great public service broadcaster. I don't understand the inference in your statement however - it makes no sense.
And I maintain that the costs incurred in entertaining MPs and other guests should be put into the context of mounting the whole OB exercise - in other words, small fry. The size of the combined TV and radio broadcasting unit at Glastonbury is huge, which costs a fortune.
Besides which, we don't know the context in which the tickets were supplied and how much they actually cost the BBC. Often, such things are supplied by the PR company involved.
And what's with "lying about working for the BBC"????? What the hell's that all about? What a silly statement. |

Such hypocrisy. You are constantly complaining about how much Chris Evans gets paid, even to the extent of introducing some sob story about a studio manager being laid off while his pregnant wife is about to give birth, yet you find it perfectly acceptable to spend £65k on corporate entertainment. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

That is precisely what I wasn't saying - and I'm not a hyprocrite. What I said was that we don't know what the context was for such expenditure. Until we know why, how, what for, etc., we're not really in a position to comment.
And as for "sob story", I'll leave that bit for now....... it doesn't merit a reaction. They're good friends of mine. |
