In the mid 1960s the UK was surrounded by Offshore Radio Stations that broadcast from ships and former Second World War defence structures located in International waters around Great Britain. These stations were silenced with the passing of the Marine Broadcasting Offences Act which became law on the 14th August 1967.

Mark - I genuinely don't understand the reason for this post. I thought most people - and certainly the majority of R2 listeners - were aware that before BBC Radios 1, 2, 3, 4 and all the other stuff we had stations like Radio Caroline, BigL, SRE, etc etc.
What is the point you are trying to make? (By the way - I'm not trying to wind you up here, I'm genuinely intrigued by the post). You give us a link to a pseudo SRE site........ and....?
One thing that perhaps people don't realise is that this year, on Aug 14th, we're celebrating the 40th anniversary of the MOBA - and Johnnie Walker is involved in a special event to mark the anniversary. |

I don't see anything wrong with Mark posting this. Though I'm old enough to have tuned in to Caroline North from 64 to 67, many posters won't have experienced this and could be genuinely interested in the issue.

Real question here.
Nothing to do with R Caroline, but my Gran used to listen to an "Oldie" song pirate radio,at the same time , any idea what it was? |
