That would be telling! Wink

Incidentally, I see from the webcam pics posted in another thread that somebody else (the producer?) was indeed driving the desk for davina. Under the circumstances that is the best thing. I didn't listen to any of the shows due to work commitments (plus the fact she annoys me almost as much as evans) but it looks that way to me.

all this technology and millionaire celebs.. Rolling Eyes all it needs is a ship, a couple of turntables, amps, transmitter and a Generator and of course decent music loving dj's and it would knock the socks off Radio2.

I think that has been done actually, but I think Johnnie Walker might be up for it all the same! Cool

How I wish that were true... Sad
I'm still feeling very low after the brief but fantastic pirate broadcasts earlier this month.

I'm sick of hearing James ruddy Blunt too!!

Yep, a glance at the Playlist reveals the unmistakeable signs of summer's end and the industry winding up for Christmas!

James Blunt, LeAnn Rimes, Gabrielle, Enrique, Katie flaming Melua, and a below-par Springsteen. And I bet we're all on the edge of our seats waiting for Dido's new, and much postponed, album in November Evil or Very Mad

The fact that James Blunt has a new album out fills me with dread as it means we'll be subjected to his dreary, whiny singing voice for the next few months. Evil or Very Mad

I agree, along with that Dido creation... Rolling Eyes

I just wonder why there's so much of this stuff on Radio 2 now? and, what market are these artists aiming at?

And boring - a boring, grating voice along with dull songs.

Mitch Benn does a great James Blunt parody, and afterwards asks the audience if they've ever bought a James Blunt album. No-one responds. Despite 31million records being sold, no-one ever owns up to buying one. Says everything, really.

Dido is her nickname from when she was a child. She did explain it in a R2 documentary about her a couple of years back I do recall, but I can't for the life of me think what the origin was.

I thought her first album was very good, by the way.

I'm glad you liked it.

I cannot bear her, there's something about her voice and songs that equates to fingernails on a blackboard. I think I may have some support here!

Articles both on the singer and the Queen of Carthage after whom she was named:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dido_(singer)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dido

I did like a couple of her songs, but really once you've heard one you've heard them all, and they're very soporific. From what I've seen of her she's a very elegant young lady, who looks good no matter what she's wearing. Not your average pop star.

(For some inexplicable reason the link to the singer's article doesn't work, but you can click the link at the top of the other page to get to it)

Nahhhh, that's the instructions on how to operate the desk. Wink

Seriously though, the guy has done a good job this week so kudos to him for that. It will be nice to have Ken back though. Smile

I agree. I consider her as the modern-day female equivalent of Nick Drake, another singer who was described as soperific, bordering on depressing, in his day but who produced some chillingly beautiful work. I've just been listening to Dido's first album this morning and I'm reminded on what a sexy voice she has. Her song-writing is really good, too (in my opinion).

By the way, she explained why her mum gave her the nickname Dido (her real name's very long and posh), and that was because she was looking for a name that rhymed with that of her elder brother - Rollo (the music producer). Dido was the only female name she knew that ended in "o".

She tells that story in the BBC R2 documentary narrated by Mark Goodier from Feb 2004.
