A bit off topic on here, but someone might be able to assist...

I have all my CD's etc as MP3's on my PC and backed up to a hard disk that plugs into the USB.

I see that there are some Hifi micro system now advertised that have USB and can communicate with MP3 players, eg TEAC CR-H255 and some panasonic models, but the adverts / reviews / websites don't make it clear what they can do.

Can I can plug my USB Hard disk into one of these HIFI micro systems and be able to play my MP3s on them ?. Anyone got a HIFI micro that can do this ?

Cheers. Smile

Well, I recently bought a mini Hif Fi system simply because it would play mp3 tracks on a cd which works great and for just £40 from Asda.
It also has a USB / Card reader function too.

So, after reading your message, I got my little mp3 player (Phillips) and plugged it into the USB port on the mini Hi Fi.

Unfortunately, it dosen't seem to work although according to the Hi Fi instructions it should?

" This unit can play USB Key & SD Cards in Mp3 formats as well...
1) Press Function button to select USB/Card..., insert your USB Key /Card, then the content of the USB Key / Card will be displayed on the Unit's display panel.
2) Press Play to start.."

All I get is the "Transfer music" symbol on the little Mp3 player's display and nothing on the Hi Fi's display Sad .

I wonder if my Phillips Mp3 player is called a "USB Key"? I don't know..

But in theory, I think yes, the HiFi should play Mp3 tracks from the little players. But mine dosen't want to.. Laughing

Thanks for that, your experience doesn't come as a surprise as no where seems to explain exactly what these players do with the USB port.

I think I need some more research before I make a decision

It depends on how the MP3 tracks are configured on the USB storage device itself, and where they're stored relative to the root directory. The HiFi unit will look for files in a given directory on the USB fob, and if they're not where it expects them to be it will assume there aren't any.
