Former MTV presenter. Dated Eric Clapton for a while. That's all I know.

I believe she was also in a Kylie video once.

At least she won't have to worry about her hair color covering any grey. Another case of 'celebrity' radio.

Definitely not, Helen. I'll be tuning out (and dropping out at this rate).

It is rather scary how R2 seems to be taken over a chunk at a time by celebrity presenters.

Mark M - you're on record as saying you want Ken to be replaced, what do you say re the prospect of Davina sitting in (or even getting the gig permanently! Shocked )?

I am certainly on record as saying Mr Bruce should be replaced but not by a celebrity presenter full time.

Richard Allinson would be my first choice. Dermot O'Leary would also be okay imho but like others on this thread I am not in favour of celebrity presenters for celebrity sake. Davina will actaully make Steve Wright look half decent and that is saying something.

Lesley Douglas is slowly strangling the life out of BBC Radio 2 with her constant obsession of putting in/hiring non music led types to present shows on this once great radio station.

As an aside I'm actually hoping Richard lands a permanent gig on another station altogether if he decides to move on from BFBS Radio 2.

I am listening less and less to Radio 2 these days-only a few shows worth tuning for anymore-Stuart Maconie solo on a Saturday afternoon followed by Dermot are still good shows-the rest leaves me completely cold/non plussed-hey ho.

Ken Bruce along with Kennedy, Wogan and Wrighty attract mega amounts of listeners, so I very much doubt they will be pushed out the door. I do expect Richard does attracts just the same amount of listeners when covering, but there is just no room and Lesley Douglas wants too give something else to radio 2. Davina may not be everyones choice of presenter, but It wont stop the way the show is run and will still be music led. Remember the shows when covered are produced by the same team, but they have a different voice at the other end of the mic.

I remember Mark Goodier replied to my email about him going to Smooth Radio and he said " he was offered a lot of show, but Smooth was too good an offer to turn down" I'm sure this applies to a lot of radio broadcasters?

Well, Lesley's now got all the Big Brother presenters on the roster; Brand, O'Leary and now McCall. How long before she really starts getting underneath the barrel and uses the Big Brother contestants?!!!

Don't joke my friend! Stranger things have happened on this rancid network. Remember 'Bungalow' Bill Wiggins depping for Gloria Hunniford?!!!

If this is true, Radio 2 is taking another step into trash radio. Good grief, how much worse can it get? I despair.

Evans made mention on-air of a rumour that LD was quitting. He said this wasn't true. If McCall is the way forward, for all LD's appreciation of Danny Baker, this clarification is a little disappointing!

She made pretty thin radio when they last used her on Love Songs.

When will they realise, with literally one or two exceptions, women simply cannot do creative, imaginative, stimulating music radio! Especially those with a background in TV. You're not talking to a baying crowd now, you're talking to one person .... (In more than one respect!)

Richard Allinson could not have done this gig as he is on holiday for 2 weeks starting 13-8.

I guess though Lesley Douglas has now completely forgotten about Richard in any event.

Daytime Radio 2 has now been so completely taken over by the playlist that it hardly matters who presents the shows anymore.
There is no individuality anymore, they might as well put on a tape loop of the same 7 or 8 blando songs being repeated ad nauseum.

Davina McCall is to host the morning programme on Radio 2 next week, the first time she has presented a daily show on the network.

The Big Brother host is stepping in for regular presenter Ken Bruce on the first week of his two-week holiday.

McCall is the latest TV presenter recruited by Radio 2 controller Lesley Douglas, following Alan Titchmarsh, Richard Hammond, Dermot O'Leary and Russell Brand.

McCall, O'Leary and Brand have all worked on Channel 4's Big Brother, and are all represented by agent John Noel.

McCall has made brief appearances on Radio 2 before, presenting the Brits 25 - Best Song Award programme to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Brits.

The Big Brother host, who started her career on MTV, has long been tipped for a career in radio and was linked with the Capital Radio breakfast job when it was vacated by Chris Tarrant.

She was also one of the DJs on UK Radio Aid two years ago, the commercial radio initiative to help the victims of the tsunami disaster.

But her best-known stint at the BBC will be remembered for the wrong reasons - her BBC1 chatshow Davina lasted just one series after it flopped with viewers and critics.

She has since appeared on BBC shows including Question Time, Comic Relief and Room 101.

Radio 2 is the country's most popular radio station with 13.25 million listeners, helping the BBC to a record lead over commercial radio in the first three months of this year.

The latest audience figures, for the second quarter of 2007, are published this Thursday.

The second week of Ken Bruce's holiday will be filled by Aled Jones.

To be fair to Mark, the report he's cut'n'pasted was only put on MediaGuardian in the last day or so - after we'd all been discussing it.

Apart from the inaccuracies in the report (first time standing in, eh?) I finding it slightly worrying that Davina's week is receiving press interest. Could it be LD testing the waters?

She is rather nervous I think. From the webcam she is not driving the desk so she has the producer in studio to do that. I dont know if it is much worse though that the other cover DJ's. It just seems to be the usual reading stuff out of the tabloids & asking (nay pleading desperately!) for people to text in.

Her bad grammar does annoy me though

She was told two things not to call people "mate" and not to shout, but she tends too when she's excited. Radio and TV is slightly different. I'm sure you can control yourself in a different way?

She was pretty awful this morning, I thought. Typical TV-presenter-playing-at-radio stuff. I thought we might get "hello out there in radio land" or some other trite rubbish at any minute. Maybe we will before the week is out!

There's lots of good alternatives out there which are so much better than the crap daily Radio 2 schedules.

It's just a question of finding what you like.

IMHO Lesley Douglas has got to go-they need to get a leader in who is more in touch with the listeners.

Mark Goodier smooth London Very Happy

The leader is fine. Her choice of some broadcasters really should be questioned? Why do they all get high profile shows when people like Pete Mitchell ( OK some don't like him, but he's been in Radio lot longer ) get an over night show?

Mark O, PM is dreadful, that's why! Though compared to Davina, he's not bad. That's how dreadful she is - I'm sure there is a place for her on Big Brother but why does LD think she could possibly fit in on R2?

Mind you, LD think Russell Rolling Eyes BrainDead fits in on R2

Surely the above statements cancel each other out. How can a 'fine' leader have their choice of broadcasters questioned? Given what Lesley Douglas has done to R2 thus far, I'm in agreement with Mark Mayhew, she should go.

To answer to Madeinsurrey's question, probably because she's on Big Brother That seems to be the qualifications these days. Rolling Eyes
