Yes this coming weel Julian takes care of 12-2 while Jezza has a week off.

In my opinion he is one of the best stand ins that the JV show has had.

In fact he would have been a better choice last week instead of John Inverdale. Rolling Eyes

I thought Jezza was doing his own show last week & even this week ending. John Inverdale was on drivetime wasn't he?

Are you sure, Mike? Julian Worricker has just left the BBC to go travelling and teach English as a Foreign Language. He wrote a piece about it in The Guardian the other week, so unless something's gone wrong he shouldn't be broadcasting for another 6 months at least.

Just had a look, and it seems Julian's not leaving for a couple of weeks. So the Beeb must be keeping him busy!

Julian Worricker, one of the most familiar voices on Radio Five Live, is to leave the station after 13 years.

Worricker, who presents the Radio Five Sunday morning programme and previously co-hosted the breakfast show with Victoria Derbyshire, has been a presenter on the station since its launch in 1994.

His departure is expected to spark a rush among independent producers to win the contract to produce the replacement for the three-hour Sunday morning show.

Worricker, who is also a presenter on BBC News 24, is not renewing his contract with the corporation when it comes to an end in the autumn.

He is understood to be taking six months off to travel around the world, but it is not known what he plans to do on his return.

Worricker became one of Radio Five Live's most important presenters as co-host of the weekday breakfast show between 1998 and 2002, when it won the Sony gold award for best breakfast programme.

He left to present the Sunday Programme - since renamed Worricker on Sunday - which is co-produced by Radio Five and Bob Geldof's production company, Ten Alps. He also fronts other BBC Radio shows, including Radio 4's The Obit Writers.

Worricker on Sunday is described by Ten Alps as a "lively mix of investigative journalism, breaking news and insightful analysis of this week's big stories". It also includes the Five Live Report.

However, it failed to match the impact of the show it replaced, Sunday Service.

Initially hosted by Fi Glover, Sunday Service's irreverent style became the model for a more accessible style of Westminster reporting. It was also made by Ten Alps.

"Julian is taking a well-earned career break and travelling the world for a while," said the Radio Five Live controller, Bob Shennan.

"He will be leaving the Worricker programme at the end of September and we will make an announcement regarding who will replace him in due course. Julian is a fantastic presenter and we're sure we will hear from him on Five Live in the future."

Worricker, who has also presented Five Live's mid-morning phone-in and drivetime programmes, was one of the faces of BBC3's youth-orientated news service when it launched four years ago.
