BBC radio DJ Andy Kershaw is in jail after being charged with breaching a restraining order, police say.
The presenter was arrested on Wednesday near the home of former partner Juliette Banner.
Ms Banner had won a restraining order on August 1 banning the 48-year-old from visiting her home.
The couple, who have two children, are separated.
Kershaw, who used to present on Radio 1, appeared before a court in Douglas on Thursday and was remanded in custody to reappear on Tuesday.
The star, who is originally from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, now lives on the Isle of Man. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

The BBC bosses must be proud about this employee.
Don't think we will hear much more about this guy in the future-going to prison is not a good career move is it. |

Not been a good year for the Kershaws. Still we don't know the full details on Andy's woes yet. The police on the Isle of Man are not overly busy so the probably enforce these things more strictly than elsewhere. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Pity, he used to do a good show on R1 etc, at one stage it looked like he would be the replacement for John Peel |

He was good mates with Peely and I liked his R1 shows as well - especially the ones where he took a tape recorder off on his world travels. Good presenter. Trouble is that network radio doesn't seem to want good presenters in the traditional sense any more, it just wants rent-a-gobs and lackeys. |

Kershaw was a bit of a rent-a-gob as well. Never short of an opinion on anything for the papers. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Liz is still in a spot of bother herself:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6913665.stm
Committee chairman John Whittingdale said he was concerned about a "serial deception" by BBC 6 Music's Liz Kershaw show, where production staff pretended to be quiz entrants on several occasions when the programme was pre-recorded.
Mr Whittingdale asked why Kershaw remained on-air when Mr Byford had admitted three senior staff had been suspended in connection with the other deceptions.
"The judgement made at the moment is that Liz Kershaw continues broadcasting on 6 Music but the investigation continues," Mr Byford said.

Hasn't her show been "rested"since this story was published? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Andy Kershaw's BBC career must be over now surely.
I can't see how he can come back to the BBC from a stint in prison. |

Must be hard not to break a restraining order if both halves live on the Isle of Man. One only has to stumble on the way back from the pub and -whoops! there it goes.

Yes, I can see him staying with the BBC but that little sideline trailing off. Or maybe he'll just go and work for Africa FM (or something) |

Andy Kershaw championed the wonderful singer/songwriter 'Ted Hawkins' on his programmes and for that I am grateful to him. If you haven't heard the late Mr. Hawkins, then imagine a cross between Sam Cooke the soul singer and Charley Pride the Country singer. Ted's voice sears into his songs with real passion. Yes, I am a big fan! |

The DJ Andy Kershaw today pleaded guilty to drink-driving and breaching a restraining order banning him from approaching his ex-girlfriend.
The former BBC Radio 1 presenter, who now has a show on Radio 3, admitted the offences at a court on the Isle of Man, where he was arrested last month close to the home of Juliette Banner.
Kershaw, 48, had moved to the town of Peel with Ms Banner and their two children in April last year.
But the couple split and Ms Banner moved out of the family home and into a small terraced house around 150 yards away.
Ms Banner won a restraining order against Kershaw on August 1 and he was arrested close to her property on August 29.
She has since moved house in an effort to reduce tensions between the couple.
The drink-driving charge came after Kershaw was stopped by police on September 13.
He was breathalysed and gave a reading of 57 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 30.
The deputy high bailiff, Alastair Montgomerie, adjourned the case until October 19 for social inquiry reports to be prepared.
He said: "As I have not heard any of the facts, the court is indicating all sentencing options are open."
Kershaw was bailed on condition that he cooperate with the probation service and not drive a car.
He must also comply with the original restraining order requirements that he does not approach Ms Banner, observes a 9pm to 7am curfew and does not enter pubs or restaurants selling alcohol.
Outside court, Kershaw said: "I've lost my kids, I've lost the woman I love, I've lost everything. It's a very difficult time for me. I just want peace and quiet."
Kershaw, originally from Rochdale, Manchester, studied politics at Leeds University before moving to London in 1984 where he worked as Billy Bragg's driver and roadie.
He was hired by the BBC and worked on the Whistle Test music show, before going on to host his own slot on Radio 1.
Kershaw has presented a world music show on Radio 3 since 2001, but it is not known if he will return to the show.

BBC DJ gets suspended jail sentence
Peter Walker and agencies
Tuesday October 9, 2007
Guardian Unlimited
The BBC radio DJ Andy Kershaw was today given a three-month suspended jail sentence for breaching a restraining order keeping him away from his former partner.
Sentencing Kershaw at the Isle of Man courts of justice, High Bailiff Michael Moyle said he did not want to make him a "martyr".
The former Radio 1 presenter, who now has a show on Radio 3, last month admitted to breaching the order after being arrested close to the home of Juliette Banner, the mother of his two children.
He today admitted drink-driving, and was banned for 16 months.
The 48-year-old had moved from London to the town of Peel with Ms Banner and their children in April last year. However, the couple separated and Ms Banner, along with their children, aged eight and nine, moved in with another man.
At the beginning of August, she was granted a restraining order against Kershaw, banning him from approaching her or Jim Imrie, her new partner. Kershaw was arrested close to her new home on August 29, spending six days in custody.
Speaking outside last month's hearing, he said: "I've lost my kids, I've lost the woman I love, I've lost everything. It's a very difficult time for me. I just want peace and quiet."
Nigel Cordwell, defending Kershaw, today said his client was "a man struggling to come to terms with personal tragedy".
Kershaw, originally from Rochdale, Manchester, moved to London in 1984 and worked as Billy Bragg's driver and roadie before being hired by the BBC.
He has presented a world music programme on Radio 3 since 2001, but it is not known whether he will return to the show. |
