As part of BBC Four's Radio Week, this documentary offers a portrait of the specialist side of BBC Radio 2. The network has an amazing heritage of specialist programming that covers an extensive range of genres, from folk to organ music and jazz to big band.

Love the way it clashes with a specialist music show! Genius scheduling there!

I would watch but I'll be listening to FNIMN Wink

Anyone from here going to be on it?

of course but just in case you were making plans for the next fortnight Wink
Since its on BBC4 it will be repeated at least 10 times.

I wonder if any message boarders will be appearing. Will we be able to spot them without their login names? Smile

Sounds par for the course. The producer who contacted me had never heard of Alan Dell Rolling Eyes

Despite being contacted, no, I'm not on the show Confused

I spread the word here and through various yahoo music groups but I'm not aware of anyone I know being on the show. They did a bit of filming with Desmond Carrington and I suspect he got some of his loyal listeners involved.

'Whatever happened to Radio 2?' I was thinking the same thing. My opinion is it that went downhill racing thanks to Lesley Douglas' ideas about the station.

Either that or the BBC's promotions department is allocating a bit more cash to promoting the station? That could tell a different story altogether. In some quarters it would be described as a "hearts and minds" campaign - in other words, a desperate attempt to attract a whole new listenership to the station in the wake of decisions taken about its presentation policy.

I remember when this happened to Radio One ( One FM ) in the 80's. Then came the 90's and it was a clear out. All the jingles were rebranded and the stations image along with the music followed.

I remind you, for all R2's relentless evolution it still posesses ten year old news and travel jingles! About the oldest things on the station these days!

...and that includes the mental age of some of the presenters!

Reminder: BBC FOUR TV Friday 5 October 2007

Whatever Happened To Radio 2?
Friday 5 October
9.00-10.00pm BBC FOUR TV

It's repeated on Saturday 6th.

Here's the run-down of BBC FOUR TV's tributes to radio:

3 pages:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/whatson/search/advance_search.cgi?tmp=whatson%2Fsdk%2Fbbcfour%2Fsearch.tmpl&err=whatson%2Fsdk%2Fbbcfour%2Ferror.tmpl&keyword=part+of+radio+week&go=go

If that link is broken then try searching TV programmes with the words 'part of radio week'
