BBC Chairman Sir Michael Lyons made an appearance on BBC Radio Manchester this morning answering a range of questions from breakfast show presenters Eamonn O'Neal and Dianne Oxberry, submitted by listeners to the station.

Topics included recent fake phone-in quizzes and information about the latest RAJAR results.

Sir Michael was in the area looking at the new mediacity:uk site at Salford Quays, soon to be home to various BBC departments including Radio Five Live.

When asked the question why are current management still in place at BBC Radio Manchester when RAJAR figures are dropping, Sir Michael replied it's an issue which lies with Mark Thompson. "These things go up and down all the time," he said, saying the question on which what programmes and presenters should and shouldn't be on BBC local radio in Manchester is not something he can answer.

Mark, you are excelling yourself. "BBC Chairman visits BBC Manchester". Fascinating. Earth-shattering in its relevance to the rest of us.

What next? "Radio 2 Controller visits Sainsbury's"?

Pity the Chairman couldn't take Steve Wright with him - to remind Wrighty that there actually is life outside the M25. But, nevertheless, it is good that the BBC Chairman has deigned to visit the regions. I feel so honoured Rolling Eyes

First thing Wrighty needs to be reminded of is that the year is now 2007. Laughing
