He is a proper broadcaster, whatever that is anyway.

I like Aled, in my opinion he is far better than some of the others who have stood in for Ken this year.

Maybe Ken is attending the BBC honesty course that week. Laughing

And I thought the majority of this board liked boring. Why else are they always complaining about Chris 'Interesting' Evans? Wink

Perhaps because they'd like their hard-earned cash to be spent more wisely!

Shouldn't that read 'Chris "Not that interesting and must learn to stop talking over other people and shouting into the microphone" Evans'? Laughing

At least it's not Dreadful Davina!

BTW, did anyone hear Aled dueting with whoever-it-was on the Jonathan Ross show this morning (October 6th)? What a dreadful, sickly sweet, retch-worthy piece of tripe it was. Unutterably awful - I like a 'gentle' song but this was vomit-worthy.

Can you tell that I didn't like it? Smile

I would expect it's cheaper too have Aled covering instead of Richard A as he's a freelancer for Radio 2 and not under contract with the network. I have heard Richards voice traveling on the M40 on BBC Oxford doing some trailers and the news jingle etc....

Lets hope he's got rid of the habit of talking over the start of records and has a new joke writer, he usual jokes and banter are hopeless. Otherwise listenable. Smile

As much as I like Aled Jones, I don't think he is the right presenter to sit in for Ken Bruce. He's perfectly fine sitting in for Sarah Kennedy, though. I think Aled is much more suited to early morning radio.

Davina McCall was a bit hit and miss for me but she was harmless enough. Next time Ken Bruce is off, Pete Mitchell should sit in for him. I think he'd be great, especially as a permanent host of the mid-morning slot!

How can I when she used to dance around in the studio?! One morning during Wogan-McCall handover she wasn't even ready because she was pre-occupied making a tit of herself!

I like Davina McCall on the TV but I'm not too sure if she is suitable for the radio. Perhaps she should sit in for Chris Evans or Steve Wright at some point?

I can't see what the difference would be? She's just as shouty as he is. It would basically be like listening to a female Chris Evans!

Scott, you really dont know the first thing about either of them by the sounds of it. If you can get past your obsession with presenters voices, the content of the shows would be completely different. Chris has carved out a niche for himself talking about food, sport & lifestle issues. Something which Davina has displaye zero interest in.

Still to know this you would have to actually listen ocassionally.

Both Chris Evans and Davina McCall are in the same league. Chris has had to adjust his usual radio format to suit the Drivetime slot. He has to talk about lifestyle issues, news, sport, business etc, because they have always been part of the show. If he was hosting the 2.00 - 5.00pm slot - or even breakfast - then he wouldn't have to touch on subjects like that. He'd be his usual loud and boisterous self.

This is why I don't think Chris Evans is suitable for Drivetime. I'd much rather hear somebody like Stuart Maconie, Mark Radcliffe or Steve Lamacq on the show. Move Chris to a slot where he can be his usual self - i.e. the 2.00 - 5.00pm slot.

Broadcasters evolve. Chris has. He doesnt want to go back to relive your 1990's fantasy. Wright is stuck in the 1980's. That should be a lesson to every broadcaster to move with the times.

I don't have a "1990s fantasy" thank you very much. When he was on Saturday afternoons it was just liking tuning into his former Radio 1 breakfast show.

People still slag off Danny Baker and cast back to his Radio 1 days. Baker is one broadcaster who has evolved and laughs off any 1990s Radio 1 criticism.

And long may he continue to do so on Radio London.

Danny Baker was offered a slot on Radio 2 in 1999 but the fool turned it down. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Lesley Douglas approaches him at some point.

Probably because he's a decent, likeable chap who happens to also be a very good presenter.

Well that's an opinion I can't agree with, I don't know if he is a decent likeable chap as I don't know him, however, I think that he is just about average as presenters go and IMHO he fits into the celeb category, and a very minor one at that.

Isn't that Chris 'Interesting' Evans in the same way as Steve 'Interesting' Davis?

Off topic but Steve Davis IS quite interesting these days. He is a good poker player and making a nice sideline by sending him self up on ads.

I don't have a "prejudice". I have an opinion - something you find hard to accept. Grow up, Ernie. You're even beginning to behave like Chris Evans now.

So do I. Like I pointed out yesterday (and some people have chosen to ignore), Chris Evans has had to change his radio format to suit Drivetime. His format is different to what we're used to, but for me, whenever I hear Chris Evans he doesn't seem comfortable on Drivetime. He was brilliant on Radio 1 breakfast (and OK I suppose on Saturday afternoons).

I think Chris should be moved to a slot where he can give his fans his usual radio format. Breakfast or weekday afternoons at 2pm, but hearing him on Drivetime is just too much. At that time of day people want commute home to a relaxing format (nothing like Sarah Kennedy or Michael Parkinson's) I mean somebody like Stuart Maconie. If people want to be shouted at when they commute home then there's always Scott Mills on Radio 1 and plenty of other loudmouths on ILR stations.

Returning to Aled Jones, I heard some of the programme this morning. It is more or less his show, rather than Ken's in absentia - so no Popmaster, for instance.

Played a lot of late 70s/early 80s tracks that you don't hear too often (for good reason - Tina Charles, Rah Band). He's not the most charismatic or professional presenter I've ever heard, but for the odd week he's all right.

I've really enjoyed Aled this week, primarily for the music, which I think has had a lot more variety than the usual blando Bruce music.
Does anyone know who his producer has been this week.

There's nothing wrong with Aled Jones... but he is presents Radio 2's Religious programme. The BBC should keep the religious programme presenters away from non-religious programmes.
