There's nothing wrong with Aled Jones... but he is presents Radio 2's Religious programme. The BBC should keep the religious programme presenters away from non-religious programmes.

I think it would be a good idea to keep him away from R2, period

Why?
Ian. |
Because he needs more experience. Aled is fine on his own show, but he's not really relaxed on Ken's show this week. He's speaking too quickly and not pausing in the right places to give impact to what he's saying. These aren't faults I've heard on his own programme where's he's clearly more at home (not surprising, I suppose!).
Which isn't a reason to keep religious presenters away from mainstream programmes, but is a reason not to let Aled sit in for Ken. I agree with others, he's been better sitting in for Sarah - but still needs to slow down his speach by about 10%.

Another week of poor standin stuff of encouraging listeners to text in / e-mail in on nothing worthwhile, with no real aim but fill time.
Ken back on Monday |

Your right nod. The listeners automatically do it towards Ken without him asking to email about a subject. There is one type of broadcaster and another type. |

Ken does get texts / e-mails, and as you say doesn't have to ask for it on driovel topics, but he makes it part of the show not the sole purpose.
Getting the balance right and having the skills to run a show without resorting to it makes the difference.
as you say 'There is one type of broadcaster and another type' |

I'm pleased that's Jones over and done with - he's not irritating like the dreaded Davina, but he is incredibly insipid and any attempts at livening things up (ie making a joke, a bit of sarcasm, etc) always seem very forced.
Don't give up the day job Aled ............ |

I agree, but wish he would give up the Sunday job on R2 as Sundays on R2 are no go for me from 9 till 11 then 1 till 4:30, heaven knows what will replace Parky!

Must admit that I'm not a big fan of Parky and I'm grateful that Clive Anderson is sitting in for him today. |

I am enjoying the show today, but it would be better if Parky was presenting it, IMHO.

I agree. Whilst Anderson does a manageable job, he always sounds like he's sitting in for Parky and doesn't appear to be wholly comfortable in the slot. |

I think he turns in a more creditable performance when sitting in for J. Vine - a show I don't normally listen to when JV is presenting. |

My best memories of him are his Channel 4 days. He seems to talk at a quick speed. Sometimes I can't keep up with him.
Getting back to Aled Jones, I thought he was too bland on the Ken Bruce slot. He was better than Little Miss Shout aka Davina McCall but I think early mornings are where he belongs.
Mark Radcliffe should be given a try on Ken's slot - as should Pete Mitchell, Gideon Coe and Johnnie Walker. Davina McCall and Dermot O'Leary should be kept well away from it. It made me laugh when Lesley Douglas responded to the Davina McCall complaints. She still claimed Davina popular. If that is the case then why were 156 complaints reported on the NEWS? If she was as popular as Lesley Douglas says then surely the 156 complaints would never have been publicised? |

I don't think so. He wouldn't play anything upbeat and decent. The audiences would decline. Radio 2 would sound like Grim Reaper (like it did in the Frances Line days). Why not bring back Judith Chalmers? |

Any kind of tan is good by me. I sure ain't gonna get one here. Judith Chalmers for Radio 2 mornings it is then - with Parky on alternate weeks. Yep, sounds good to me. |

I've got quite hooked on the One Show and quite honestly I think that Adrian CHILDS' deadpan, self-deprecating humour is what makes it a bit special.

Not really. All it demonsrates is that a lot of today's TV and radio is going down the pan. |

Myleen Klass? That woman has got her snout in every trough at the moment. She's talentless, which makes her a perfect addition for Radio 2.
How about weekdays 5.00 - 7.00pm in place of loudmouth? |

It takes talent to correct one mistake by making another!
Thanks for the further correction.
Re last night's programme, I don't think AC will ever make an ice-cream salesman.
Wonder how his world record kissing session will go.

Bit strong, that. The seasoned judges and mentors of the original Popstars show (which wasn't just a popular voting contest) clearly thought she had talent, as did the people at Universal who, at roughly the same time, gave her a contract on their classical side.
She may not be the best radio presenter in the world, and I won't say what I think of her solo recording efforts, but she's very pleasing to the eye (without being "size zero" and even when pregnant), speaks clearly and seems to have a nice personality. Perfect for TV. Gets a bonus point for giving her daughter a good name (Ava) and deciding to concentrate on bringing her up rather than rushing back to full-time work as soon as possible. _________________ Ron |
