Jeremy Kyle's new show for The One Network will go head to head with Jonathan Ross' Radio 2 programme when it starts later this month.

The programme, produced by indie Something' Else, will play out across the G-Cap Media-owned network, which comprises 42 UK stations including BRMB, Invicta and Trent FM.

Kyle's new show, which begins on October 20, will feature music and celebrity guests over two hours from 10am on Saturdays, putting it in direct competition with Ross's Radio 2 show, which airs between 10am and 1pm.

Head of talent at Something' Else Grant Michaels said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Jeremy and Something' Else. To be commissioned to produce this key network offering for The One Network further underlines Somethin' Else's expertise in music and youth and the ability to produce high quality content in all formats."

Pete Simmons, G-Cap Media's programme director of content, said: "Jeremy is a captivating personality and his show will provide a strong offering for our listeners on a Saturday morning. We are delighted to be working with Something' Else on this exciting programme."

That's another radio show worth avoiding then. The list increases.

I know Woss is an acquired taste, but from what I've seen and heard of Mr Kyle it will be not so much head-to-head as head-to-foot, and even then he's barely fit enough to lick JR's boots.

Independent Local Radio used to be quite good (sometimes) and... independent and local. No more.

How true. Now it's just some homogenous and characterless mass called "G-Cap". ITV has almost completed the same transformation.

We're not listeners or viewers any more - we're "consumers" who have to fit a particular market profile.
