Mark, its something that is unlikely to happen. There seems to be a contingent of people who just want to post abusive remarks repeatedly about Chris Evans & the mods seem to think that is ok.

If you try to post something constructive or start a meaningful discusion you will get shot down I'm afraid.

Who said anything about Mo Dutta and Pete Mitchell? Those two top guys deserve daytime slots on Radio 2!

Mo Dutta replacing the dire and outdated Sarah Kennedy and Pete Mitchell replacing Ken Bruce aka Rab C Nesbitt on weekday mornings!

It's the words you Fire I'm picking up on calling Chris Evans a Prat etc etc. Fair enough you may not like him and his style of presentation, but there is no need for that language.

It'll be nice to hear Pete Mitchell covering more shows during the daytime. Ken Bruce is a good example. If you look at Petes My space he does get involved with documentarys one coming up soon:

SPELLBOUND:THE STORY OF JOHN MCGEOCH
I just thought I would give you the latest on Spellbound: the Story of John McGeoch documentary for BBC Radio 2. Ace guitarist Johnny Marr, now of Modest Mouse, who has just completed a world tour with the American band, has contributed. McGeoch remains one of Marr's biggest influences 'he had the chops' said Johnny gleefully. We spoke in Manchester about how important McGeoch's playing was and especially on 'The Correct Use of Soap'; he too wonders why he is still largely ignored. Hopefully this documentary will go someway to redress this. Mr. Marr spoke admiringly about John, and it becomes more apparent to me that the more people I speak to about his talent, the greater my respect grows for the man-he was, and is completely unique. The question is why has he not garnered the recognition he so richly deserves? He spent most of his professional life living in the shadows. In Magazine, the enigmatic showman Howard Devoto took centre stage and quite rightly so, the same applies to his time in Siouxsie and the Banshees. Siouxsie occupied centre stage with her dramatic looks and wonderful voice, and everyone else blended into the background. I think most people did not realise how much of a guitar virtuoso and genius he actually was. Very few came out and stated at the time that John was one of Britain's most inventive musicians. I could be making a completely different documentary if this had been the case. When John arrived in Manchester to study fine art at the poly, his flat mate designer Malcolm Garrett knew he was different very early on and greatly admired him. Malcolm himself went on to design record sleeves for the Buzzcocks, Peter Gabriel, Duran Duran and Simple Minds. He told me his art was amazing and that John was taking his finals whilst recording Magazines debut album 'Real Life' and got a first. It seems that whatever he did he applied himself fully and was totally absorbed in what he did. If he had been a plumber, he would have been a great plumber. He probably would have got a tune out of a piece of copper piping. My next encounter will be with John Lydon, who arrives in the UK to play a couple of gigs with the Sex Pistols to celebrate their 30th anniversary. McGeoch spent 12 years with P.I.L. and I expect more high praise again. He walked on thin air.

I agree that Pete Mitchell should be given more daytime cover on Radio 2. I'd love to hear him on Ken Bruce's slot permanently. Pete was very good at presenting Razor Cuts on Virgin Radio. He has a mountain of radio experience and musical knowledge as opposed to some of the rabble Lesley Douglas has brought to the network.

he was standing in for Dermot O'L and I don't think he was any good, no thanks to having him on during the daytime

I think Pete Mitchell is miles better than Dermot O'Leary. Pete is enthusiastic and enjoyable to listen to whereas Dermot sounds like a cheap and tackly ILR jock. Why on Earth Lesley Douglas has kept the muppet on Radio 2 is beyond me. Dermot O'Leary is crap. Even a lot of Ken Bruce's listeners complained when he sat in for Ken a few months back.

Thats not bad radio. Mark Radcliffe does it. It's what the presenter knows which is more important.

Not necessarily, it's only important if you like a particular kind of music. I think it's the presenters personality and sense of humour which is more important. Steve wright for example.... Wink
I don't suppose Kenny Everett was a music know all, but he was a great dj.

I don't agree. I think it is bad radio. Mark Radcliffe might have a few ums and ahs but he also has a charisma that enables him to engage with listeners in a completely different way. Pete Mitchell sounds (to me) like he doesn't quite know what he's doing or why he's doing it.

To include Kenny Everett in with some of the rabble Lesley Douglas has hired for Radio 2 since 2004 is an insult to the late, great man!

Have you listened to his overnight weekend shows? He does get the listeners on board. Most of them have moved over with him from Virgin Radio..

Yes, I have heard - usually when driving home in the middle of the night. As for Virgin Radio, that's boring now as well!

Shocked I didn't include Kenny Everett with anybody and I would be amongst the last people to insult him. I was listening to him before you were born!

My point is the legendary Kenny Everett shouldn't even be muttered under the same breath as those bunch of tossers! I heard the Kenny Everett Show from 1981 a few weeks back on Radio 2. I thought it was awesome. Radio 2 ought to replay all of his Radio 2 shows!

Sundays 11.00am - 1.00pm would suit me!

Pete Mitchell has been around for a long time. He dosn't make himself high profile, thats why he's popular just like Richard Allinson was when he was on Radio 2.

Pete Mitchell is the sort of jock Radio 2 needs. At least he's not an egotistic loudmouth celebrity like many on the network these days a la Chris Evans, Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross etc.

Agree with that! I listened to it again last week and it gets better. ( don't forget if anybody wants a free DVD copy of that day's broadcast let me know! )
I'd also like to hear some of Adrian Juste's specials too. Laughing

ps, glad to see you back on here Scott... Very Happy

Thanks, man! It's GOOD to be back! Very Happy

As for Kenny Everett, I think Radio 2 should re-run his old shows. How about a Kenny Everett Christmas broadcast from either 1981 or 1982 on Christmas Morning, 11.00am - 1.00pm? They could have Wogan's inane drivel on from 9.00 - 11.00am instead.

Adrian Juste - perhaps his broadcasts could replace the atrocious cack broadcast on the Comedy Hour?

I know!

Mon: Sounds of the Sixties with Lulu

Tue: Sounds of the Seventies Noddy Holder

Wed: Sounds of the Eighties Boy George

Thu: Sounds of the Nineties with The Gallagher Brothers! Cool

Ernie,

If you have a problem do you not think that you should raise it with the mods, instead of expecting them to be mindreaders?

It will be an issue I will look into, as is your continual want to create arguements with people.

Fair point.

So we should all agree with each other? What's the point of that? If all we are going to do is just sit around saying how terrible Evans, Brand, Ross and a few others are then I think I will hand back my membership as there really doesnt seem like a lot of point. And I dont think I am continually engaging in arguements. Sometimes yes, but not continually.

Come on guys, lets discuss R2, I have sympathy for both of you, we all want to express our likes and dislikes. Yes I am as guilty as the rest but do try to keep my digs and critical remarks to the R2 presenters, although I do sometimes bite when people are fishing. Shocked

I don't hate Chris Evans; I just think he's on the wrong slot. Move him to the 2.00 - 5.00pm slot where he would liven it up. Whenever I tune into Steve Wright it's the same crap and nonsense 1985 style. It's about time the smug idiot was axed.

I am regularly accused of making comments about Mr Evans, Like others, I think he is just wrong for that slot on Radio 2, maybe he should be on earlier, like 2pm or even 2 am.

I still think Chris Evans would be better off on the 2.00 - 5.00pm slot where he would brighten up those currently dated afternoons all thanks to Steve Wright aka Mr 1985.

I like Chris Evans - just not on Drivetime.

I would much rather drive home to a neutral presenter who doesn't shout and patronise. Stuart Maconie would be ideal.

Chris was good tonight. Its a show that doesnt take its self too seriously.

Its the only show they days that makes me laugh, apart from ocassionally Sarah or Terry. Bruce makes me groan, Wright makes me cringe, Vine makes me despair.

Evans has the wonderfully silly office news, last week we had the coneman, and we have great banter with Johnnie, Sally & the Fox.

If Evans was to leave drivetime, the station would lose probably the only really entertaining & original daytime show that it now possesses.

In years to come we will look back on Evans drivetime in the same way people look back at Terry's 70's shows & Kenny Everett's 80's shows.

Thats my 5 cents worth anyway.
