Just watched the BBC 2 TOTP Country Music Special. Steve and his 'wonderful' captions told us that we were watching Johnny Cash from Sept 2003. Sorry but Cash was dead by then. Probably the clip was from a decade earlier, unless J.C. had infact resurrected himself. Same initials, different fellow. Do try to keep up, Steve.

In all fairness, that won't be SW's fault. it'll be a member of the production team - researcher passes info to the graphics team who put the lower-third info straps (as they're called) together and which are then flown in on the edit. Steve Wright wouldn't have known anything about it as his voice-over would probably be in the can already by the time the edit comes together. Either that or he would done his voice-over to pic at offline stage, but caps and titles wouldn't be in place at that stage. They'll go on at the final cut stage.

Pretty sloppy research, all the same, and supervised by producers who themselves seem to have little clue and who don't seem to care, either. Much like many Radio 2 producers, it would seem!

Just watched it again and Steve says JC from 2003 and he repeats it at the end. The clip of Cash was from 'Later with Jools Holland' I believe and was probably from the early nineties. All the other clips, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks etc were dated correctly so this error stood out to me.

Surely someone like Steve Wright should have some notion/idea of when JC died for god's sake.

This just proves he has no bloody idea. Why are the BBC so keen to inflict him on us poor listeners/viewers.

I hate this idiot. Can't we deport him to the US.

Cash died in 2003 so maybe he didn't put 2 and 2 together.
It's tough at the top of the heap, he's a busy man. Wink
