Mark-Was RA's appearance on popmaster live today then.

He's usually broadcasting on BFBS Radio 2 at that time although I was not listening to him live today.

It used to be the highlight to my Saturday. I would chill out listening to Richard Allinson, then at 6.30pm when Paul Gambaccini came on, I would start to get ready for the night out.

Saturday used to be the best day on Radio 2. Now it's the worst all thanks to the long haired loudmouth in the morning (Jonathan Ross), the cheesy wostit in the afternoon (Dermot O'Leary), and the man in drag (Russell Brand) in the evening.

Nod-I have a very healthy/good tan from my trip to Singapore/Australia.

Richard looks a bit peeky/white to me in the picture posted by LEE.

Have been listening to RA on BFBS using the listen again feature-no weather forecast today but that is the only give away that it is a pre-recorded show-otherwise you would not notice its not live-good work Mr Allinson.

Nod-Jim Dooley won-he scored 30 points against RA's 24.

Ken Bruce gave lots of clues to JD imho.

Yes, I miss RA on Sat afternoons. I used to be driving up the M1 on a Saturday afternoon and I used to enjoy listening to the show. Then they went and replaced him with that Ginger-nutted rentagob and things were never the same again.

Au contraire, Rodders. They got much, much worse, thanks to the gobby one. Unbearably awful - as is that infantile crap called "drivetime" now.

I had JW has cocked up. He's applied a general wildcard substitution in place of a single letter - the one that comes ahead of "g" in the alphabet!

Saturdays were the best day on R2. As I've said in the past, the only time the radio went off on a Saturday was the comedy Shocked hour.

I really miss Richard's show on a Saturday, like many have said, it segued greatly into Gambo, then to a documentary - usually great and into the critical list (another miss for Saturdays - the watered down version in Stuart's Saturday show is a poor pretender to the throne).

I've got a few of the Saturday shows still on cd and bung them on for great nostalgia. Great music played always, loved the long song and wall of sound and of course, three of the best.

Ah, the heady days of yesteryear.... Bring on Sunday's show!

Hi Andy-Good to see you posting on here and still saying very nice things about Richard. I concur with your comments 100%.

Whilst BBC Radio 2 don't appreciate Richard that much I guess we should be pleased that BFBS Radio do, as some of the features you mention feature on his daily BFBS Radio 2 show.

Sadly the Wall of Sound does not feature-I wish he would bring this feature back.

Mark O-I listen almost everyday to RA (apart from October 2007) and have done so since the launch of his daily BFBS Radio 2 shows.

Apart from an absent global weather forecast and a customary chat with Hermina Campbell 15 minutes or so from the end of the show you could not really tell today's show was pre-recorded.

The equipment BFBS use is so much better than say that of BBC Radio Oxford where you can tell almost instantly the show starts, that Allinsons Albums is not presented live on a Saturday-that show is definetly voice tracked-more's the pity imho-voice tracked shows loose that certain feel of "proper radio" to me.

Mark O-No.

Richard still goes to Radio Oxford on Saturdays but records his show early (he uses Studio 1) and leaves about 11.30am. He must have afternoon engagements or just wants to spend his time with his family on Saturday afternoons.

The show is recorded for BBC York as well? Is there plans for more BBC local ?

Not sure but it would be good if Allinsons Albums went out to a wider geography.

If I find out I will post something.

According to Mark O, Elaine Paige "voice tracks". Is that a polite Cockney term for talking Cold Tap?
