Car service Evil or Very Mad

Ok, serves me right for having a sporty version Audi A4 Quattro, but listen to this. 55k miles the dashboard has been flashing me to get the 60k service done early.

Took the car in this morning:

"The main bit of the 60k service will replace every filter blah blah..." £414

"The 60k service would also have a complete brake fluid service...." £101

Yeah ok, I'll go for that lot.

"At 60k we would normally change the cambelt £535....."

Eh? Forget that mate!

At lunch with the missus I said to her the service will be £515 but it could have been £1050....... moments later the mobile rings....

"Mr Wright you're back brake shoes are 77% worn...... "£153

Brakes eh? Yeah OK

"And your wipers are smearing the windshield....." £34

Yeah OK

"We're halfway through Mr Wright, should be ready after 4.00pm"

That probably means they haven't checked the cambelt yet..... Confused

77% worn, does that mean they need replacing ?
How do they measure 77% ?

My amigo Jose Maria bought an old trabant for 1 euro and it goes very well indeed, no need for expensive service! If the engine not work properly he will hit it with a hammer and then it goes okay. Why does people pay so much for a car in engliand?

What he's saying, John, is that one of them trabby things is helluva a lot cheaper - and if you carry a hammer with you it never breaks down (for long) either! I want one.... Laughing

I shouldn't gloat because my car is also due its 60k service (what a coincidence!). It'll have to wait until January.

Hi John-I drive a fairly new sporty Audi A3.

Just today a message has come up on the computer advising me for the need for its first service.

I wonder sort of bill I will be looking forward to.

Have had Audi's for a number of years-whilst vnice cars they are expensive to maintain etc.

I don't know what the first service costs (it was a company car during the first two years I drove it, I liked it so much I bought it!) but looking at my printout today it says Variable Service £199 and then all the parts etc. are added. The first service might be cheaper than that.

So, the cambelt was OK, but brake pads, brake fluid service, wipers, every filter changed, VAT, added £479 to my service. I can put half down as business expense so the taxman will give me some back next year Smile

I'm driving up to Manchester on Monday early. I admit to driving fast on motorways (if everyone else is) so I feel safer in the Audi than in an old banger Wink

The car is just so easy to drive, and gets you quickly out of tricky situations when people are cutting you up etc., put your foot down in 2nd or 3rd gear and it really does take off! Also, even in Manchester, I know the security means nobody will steal it. Rolling Eyes

I'm sure, like me, you buy what you can afford. Your friend has a 1Euro banger, I expect YOUR car cost more than that Razz

After last nights 'Police, Camera , Action' , with Mr Smarmy, you should watch out for carjackers Shocked

because they can't steal your car by other methods.
