Anyone who has been on the London Underground recently will recognise her voice.

For eight years its calm, measured tone has politely urged millions of passengers every day to 'mind the gap' and thanked them for travelling on the Tube.

But the woman behind the voice is no fan of the capital's transport system, which she avoids using at all costs. And she has just revealed what she really thinks about it by recording a series of scathing, but hilarious, spoof announcements and posting them on her website.

In them, Emma Clarke lets rip at American tourists, Sudoku solvers and commuters who stare at female passengers' breasts.

She used to appear regularly on It's Been A Bad Week, and the things on her website are in that vein - touting for comedy work, basically.

Nice girl but maybe a bit dim to put that stuff up. Seems a bit of an over-reaction by London Underground though.

Yes, they say there's no such thing as bad publicity, and it may prove to be good for her freelance work. Her website has crashed, having been overwhelmed by visitors wanting to take mp3 recordings. You can bet that most of them won't be there when it comes back on, or you'll have to pay for them.

My mother, who last used the Underground to travel to work more than 50 years ago, says that men perving at ladies' breasts on the tube is nothing new, and if that was all they had done she wouldn't have minded.

None of the examples in the paper quoted anything as criticism of London Underground itself, so their reaction does seem to be a bit OTT.

Rockit: at about the same time scale my Mum said the men were all pervy on the Tube She reckoned they looked up young womens skirts. Or were all the women in those days living in a fantasy?

Snap! Putting their hands up your skirt, was what she actually said, and as someone who runs a close second to the Queen in terms of straight-laced loyalty and conservatism I cannot imagine that it was a flight of fantasy on her part!
