There is a growing trend amongst advertisments for films to say 'Oscar Winner' Joe Soap and 'Oscar Winner' Mary Mint in the latest movie. Yes they are Oscar winners, but not for the movie the adverts are trying to get you to go and see. I object, M'lud! |

I didn't think it was that new a trend, though I can't give exact examples.
It's also used on books "The new novel from Booker prize-winning author..." and in ads and front of house for theatre shows.
Just standard advertising hype. I hate it all as well _________________ Ron |

But it does suggest you're watching a quality production with quality actors, and helps to tell you the type of film it is.
Unless it contains the words "Academy Award Winner Ben Kingsley" in which case it'll be rubbish!
Plus, if you won an Oscar, wouldn't you like to tell everyone about it? |
