|
|
Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been killed in a presumed suicide attack, a spokesman for the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) says.
Other reports said Ms Bhutto had only been injured and taken to hospital.
Ms Bhutto had just addressed a rally of PPP supporters in the town of Rawalpindi when the rally was hit by a blast.
At least 15 other people are reported killed in the attack.
Ms Bhutto has twice been the country's prime minister and was campaigning ahead of elections due in January.

I think this will have extremely serious repercussions as I cannot see other powers in the region being happy about the instability this very sad event will cause. China and India, also nuclear powers, must be very concerned and could well intervene to pre-empt Al Quada gaining access to these weapons.

I guess it all but ends the chances of democracy in Pakistan, whoever killed her must have realised she might have won the election.
A very sad day, certainly puts things into perspective |

I'm only surprised it's taken so long for this inevitable tragedy to happen. |

Well we could but hope, although on the previous ocassions her success in Pakistan has been very limited. When she was PM last the Taliban were at the peak of their strenght and the madras schools were turing out a lot of anger filled people.
I suppose her killing just extinguishes whatever hope is left for the country though. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
