I see that NPower are putting the gas and electricity prices up by record amounts. Other companies are expected to follow suit. Not only that but it will vary from region to region. Not good news, is it?

The Winter Fuel allowance will not increase of course as a result. This is a con anyway, in my opinion, as the Government keep hold of the money all year round and get the interest on it. If they increased the pension by this amount (£200) say £4 per week to the pensioners they could save it in a bank and get the interest on it and pay the bills themselves.

My commercial gas bill is getting ridiculous at £1200 a month Sad with electricity, it's just under £2000 a month now.

But what about this heating allowance money being paid out to people in residential care homes like mine?
Doesn't seem right really does it, particularly if the resident is being paid for by the government.
This was discussed on the Vine show a few months back and it was suggested many old folk spend or give the cash to their grandkids.

We debated switching from NPower but I think we'll hang on for a bit to see what the other companies do.

Heating allowance for me from next winter!

Ian.

at this rate I could buy a wind turbine every month! Confused mind you, with the high winds we've had over the last couple of days we'd be in danger of taking off! Laughing

They both get quite a bit of our disposable income already but, given some good grovelling, who knows?

Ian.

Wind turbines switch themselves off if the wind exceeds a certain speed. I think its 80 mph or some such. Its to protect the turbine from damage.
