Sorry to learn of the deaths of Sir Edmund Hillary and Sir John Harvey-Jones.

Sir Edmund will be best remembered for conquering Everest in 1953 and this has been well covered on Jeremy Vine's programme today.

Sir John was the focal point of several TV series in which he looked into the business side of several struggling companies and public bodies.

He famously told the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire on camera that his force's business plan was "bloody cobblers".

My sympathy to the respective families.

Ian.

I used to watch most of John Harvey Jones's business programmes. I remember the one where he visited the manufacturers of Morgan sports cars. Try as he might he couldn't persuade them to adopt any of his strategies, - they just liked making cars - their way. Laughing

Great characters, both of them.
