Not a good time for American aviation companies. Have a look at the link and then click on the links for computer animation of crash, HUD/Animation of crash & pictures of cracks.

I'm nervous about flying to begin with, so I'll pass, thank you. Whether military or civil, I'd rather not know the full gory details.

The USAF have been frantically shuffling their Air National Guard F-16 units around to fill the gaps left by the F-15C's temporary withdrawal from service - I read that the Illinois ANG had to fly to Hawaii for a few weeks just before Christmas.... what a shame, that posting was, I'll bet! Very Happy

It's not gory Ron, and shows you, along with the Heathrow crash landing, that aircraft are probably the highest grade of engineering in travel and military equipment. No one was killed in either incident, so have a look, it's fascinating.

OK, I did. The animations are quite surreal, the cracks quite remarkable. The F-15 pilot ejected, it's amazing he had the time to realise and activate, but that's training for you.

Seeing the pictures of the Boeing being moved yesterday the fact that it appears to be all more-or-less in one piece is quite remarkable and testament to modern build quality (I say modern, I was slightly dismayed, as one who was brought up in the era of the 707/727, and the newer jumbo jet 747, to learn that this 777 is itself 15 years old!)
