I have been reading this all through Christmas and January. I agree with him about the amount of light reflective jackets seen in the streets - I help to get these washed in my current job - and the amount of Greggs' bakeries in various northern towns.

The sections on Manchester, Bury, Rotherham and Leeds all struck home with me. I have friends and relatives scattered all over there and recognised the placenames and landmarks.

Thanks to Stuart for his lovely description of Leeds Art Gallery, and of libraries elsewhere. I also pass Bury Market on my way to my elder sister's, and he described the black puddings on sale there as excellent, but taking them home's like being 'a walking abbatoir'!
