Pete has been around for many years and knows what he's talking about music.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pete Mitchell presents the story of the late John McGeoch, one of the most innovative and influential guitarists of the past 30 years.
Born in Scotland and raised in Manchester and London, McGeoch was described as the "post-punk Jimmy Page", a man with an experimental, uncompromising and unique style. He was a distinctive player who could conjure up dramatic riffs and sounds that had never been heard before.
During his life he performed with nine bands on the cutting edge of music including Magazine, Siouxsie And The Banshees, PIL, The Skids and Visage. Yet, despite this rich musical pedigree, his story remains untold.
Although a largely ignored musical figure, John is still revered by his musical peers. His influence continues to reverberate in music around the world to this day. Bands such as The Strokes, Aztec Camera, The Smiths, Manic Street Preachers, Red Hot Chili Peppers and U2 all cite him and his guitar playing as an inspiration.
Mitchell talks to Howard Devoto, Siouxsie Sioux, Roddy Frame and Johnny Marr, among others, as he shines a light on the life of this guitar hero.
