The Government is being urged to ban the serving of tea and coffee to school pupils under 16 on health and safety grounds.

Here we go again.

From the age of 12 onwards, we frequently had tea served at after-school events. It was poured from one of those big communal pots. No one was ever scalded.

I don't actually recall hot drinks being made generally available at school in our day, only at parent evenings, school plays, sporting events etc, primarily for the grown-ups.

I've no doubt the Health & Safety Risk Assessment nannies will have their way in the end.

The bit about "minimal nutritional benefit" made me smile. Schools now have machines dispensing fruit squash which contains 2% fruit juice (if that), water and artificial sweetener, making it taste like a chemistry lab experiment. Very beneficial.
