Saw the latter half of this last night. Quite a convivial occasion. The sight of the Strictly Come Dancing judges trying to ice cake Generation Game-style was priceless. Good for them for being sporting about it.

Had forgotten how many catchphrases Brucie has spawned. Nice to see you, here kitty, kitty, didn't he do well, good game..The earliest I remember was I'm In Charge, from his days on Sunday Night at the London Palladium. He even recorded a novelty number based on this, which was on SOTS a bit ago.

When is Mr Forsyth going to become Sir Bruce?

Ian.

You might think he was overdue, given his longevity in the business, compared to Sir Terence W, for example.

He may be as corny as a lorry load of Green Giant Niblets Very Happy but he's been a well-loved and successful entertainer for a very long time - the Beeb and ITV have plenty of reasons to be thankful for his presentation skills and it was clear on Sunday evening that he's still adored by the public and everyone who works with him (though quite when the Spice Girls worked with him I'm not sure).

Most celebrities given an 80th bash on tv would just sit back in a daze and lap up all the plaudits, not take over and lead the show.
