I had the misfortune to catch this last night after Mariella Fostrup's Feminist Diatribe. Surely Rap and 'street music' is better served on Radio 1, 1 xtra and crap FM. Is Dame lesley intent on turning radio2 into a Bannisteresque 'All things to all men' station?

She does seem have the 'Bannister touch' at the moment. Apparently she seems to want things more 'female friendly', or is that just at 6 music? Another way perhaps to get a job on Radio2 or 6 music, would either be to have Big Brother connections or be on the books of http://www.johnnoelmanagement.com/ or better still, both!

I heard the Christmas special, and just don't get why it's on Radio 2. This sort of music is already well-served by many other stations and just feels out-of-place on R2.

As a one-off series, I think that it is fine for Radio 2 to broadcast it. While most of the music was mainstream-oriented and over-played on radio 1 (in time gone by!) the series had its use in attempting to introduce wider audiences to street music, in particular an audience who may have heard some aspects/areas, who may want to find out some more. Hence the A-Z tag line.

Of course, if it were a regular series, then I would disagree, because this music is better served on radio 1.

Did anyone hear the trailer for the show a few weeks back? Admittedly, that was embarrassing.

There are other forms of music that, in my opinion, deserve greater exposure on Radio 2 than Rap.
There is no mainstream exposure on the station of Prog Rock in its various forms. Jazz, now Humph is retiring, will be neglected. Knowledgeable presenters are being sacrificed for the 'Flavour of the month'

I fear for the future of the station.

Me too BGW, given what Douglas did to R2, then turned her attention to 6 music (The storm over the dumping of Gideon Coe to a 'graveyard spot' and the foisting of George Lamb in his place is still in full rage on the 6 music boards) and now it seems, from previous messages posted here, she's decided that I shouldn't listen to R2 on Saturday afternoons anymore if Stuart Maconie does lose his show. Trouble is that there is nothing for me on 6 music after Liz Kershaw. If anyone's wondering what all the fuss on 6 music is all about, they've decided to play trailers for Lamb's show on R2. Sorry Ms Douglas, I see (or perhaps that should be hear) what your critics are on about now, what a load of absolute dross it sounds, I certainly will not be deserting Ken Bruce for him.
