Went down to Wales again on Tuesday after the forecast on Monday night 'promised' wall to wall clear skies and sun. Nothing was mentioned about the snow showers I sat through on the hillside on Tuesday afternoon!
Still, it was worth it to see this Tornado Sustainment Programme aircraft (a Saudi Air Force Tornado IDS on re-work with BAE Systems at Warton, Lancashire) on a test flight during the morning. The pilot must have known he was being photographed as he came back through three minutes later! Made my day!

Great pic as usual
How do you know exactly where they are going to be, around here they just seem to whizz past unannounced ? |

Quite a bit of snow at times here today but it's thawing quite readily in between times.

The Saudi markings haven't been re-applied yet - the purple patch on the starboard wing is where the 'RSAF' marking should be. There is another IDS flying around at the moment with full Saudi markings, and was photographed (though not by me) in the Lakes last Friday.
Nod - in Wales there are only so many different valleys they can fly down - the so-called 'Mach Loop' is the most famous and busiest. Envisage the three valleys running in a circle from Dolgellau in the north, to Mallwyd in the east, down to Machynlleth in the south and then back up to Dolgellau - that's the 'Mach Loop'. Stand on one of the hillsides around there on a weekday and you're almost guaranteed photos. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Fantastic photograph.
By the way when you are sitting on your lonesome on these Welsh hills do you have Radio 2 on (mini radio or something) to keep you company.
Keep posting your wonderful pictures-they are really terrific. |

Excellent photo Chersk.
I'm wondering how you rate the quality of such photos. I expect
- NO SKY is essential
- sharpness of the image (of the aircraft)
- then the most blurred background to convey the speed
I'm sure there's more technical requirements |

Nope, that's about it in a nutshell, John! Definitely no sky - it's a poor picture if it's not land-locked. The sharp subject and blurred background is down to practicing the panning technique - and you tend only to get one chance at this game.... plus there's the rarity value of the subject.

I do, but it depends where I am as to whether there's good reception or not! Still turn it off at 2pm, though!
Found out yesterday that some of the guys from one unit are thinking of framing one of my shots from last month and making a presentation with it to the student crew involved at the end of their course. That's rather nice.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Superb photo again Cherskiy - must show it to Steve when he arrives.
Woke this morning to 4ins of snow, and a blizzard blowing. Donned my farm shoes and trotted around to let the chickens out for the day. They like to roam the farmyard. However, when they started coming out of the shed, the front ones stopped on seeing the snow and the back ones crashed into them. Noted that they had cautiously wandered out later in the day when the snow started to melt. Can't believe it, but there is no sign of it at all now.
