Whilst out driving yesterday, my wife amazed me by saying "you don't see any rusty cars anymore"...
When you think about it, it's quite true isn't it? think back about 15 - 20 years.. there were some real rustheaps driving around.
I know when I started driving in 1969, people would do anything to get through that MOT! serious rot covered with fibreglass and lbs of Filler everywhere, bits of newspaper filling the gaps, painted Duck Tape...
I glanced around Tesco's car park on the way out and not a banger to be seen! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Plenty of East Europeans driving around in them at the moment.
Cars are the most recyleable product in the world apparently. About 87% can be reused when the car is scrapped. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Santafe,
I guess more and more people can afford newer cars, but you also have to remember that improved metal treatment and corrosison resistant paint has increased the life of vehicles.
So you still see the early corrosion-resistant models like Austin Metros that are not rusty, Ford Sierras, Vauxhall Cavaliers, Nissan Micras, Honda Civics from the mid-late 1980s. Those cars, though, did sell a million or so and there ain't many on the street, so they've clearly been scrapped for some reason, probably rapid depreciation in value and a bit of a bump made them un-economic to repair. |

The Society of Motor Manufactureres and traders have seen to that By making sure that the Government make the MOT more difficult to pass, they get us to buy newer cars thus increasing their sales and profits _________________ Geddon
