Listeners have been banned from making critical comments about Sarah Kennedy, the Radio 2 presenter, on the BBC's website.

But as this isn't a BBC forum we can say what we like thankfully. Todays show was a stuttering, fumbling calamity in which a load of jibberish was spoken. If that's the best she can do then let Alex Lester have an extra hour and a half.

To be fair to the BBC's Points of View area, which is the forum involved and which is the one place left where criticism of radio and TV programmes is still allowed, the moderators and host only took this action on a couple of threads when contributions started to get personal and abusive. I don't think we're that mad keen on that over here either.

If you hop over there now you'll find at least two threads still rumbling on about Sarah, and the host's actions, as indeed there are about Steve Wright.

Interesting to see the host's admission that he/she doesn't work for Radio 2, or indeed for radio at all. Obviously the army's man for the job!

Peta is one of the 'hosts' on h2g2 (sorry can't think of the right word that they use!). She works for the BBC but not for radio as far as I know.

Most of us on here have been admonished by the Mods on the BBC message boards. We wear it as a badge of honour as we've had messages banned for non-abusive comments, and have only been critical of Dame Lesley's appointments and management style.

Damn - I haven't got a badge yet. Must try harder! Laughing

Some people seem to forget that its only a radio show.

Its not life or death, the world will go on with or without Sarah Kennedy on the radio.

If your life is so empty that ranting about Sarah Kennedy, Chris Evans or whoever becomes your main pastime in life, then Rolling Eyes

Got to say I agree gfloyd. There are more than enough radio stations to choose from so if you don't like particular show then don't tune in. Let it be known what you don't like about the show or presenter but to get insulting is too far.

Gosh, the SK bashing started on the Radio 2 MB about 5 years ago!! How often did some of us complain to the mods then? Yet they did nothing until they virtually shut that forum in total Dec 2006.

Looking at what POV threads on SK remain I can't see/read any poster remotely like the old Scott Clout/Nelson poster. If he's missed out being a 'usual suspect' at this glorious moment he won't be chuffed Rolling Eyes

This from a recent insider http://www.telegraph.co.uk/portal/main.jhtml?xml=/portal/2008/04/16/ftsarah116.xml

She sums it up in the last paragraph but three. It's not the presenters who are that bothered - Sarah probably has the skin of a rhino - it's the network controllers and other faceless wonders who like to, er, control.

Sarah receives a lot of flak on these forums, and I do understand why many people are offended by her behaviour - however, it is her naturalness and warm personanlity on the radio that I find quite comforting and enjoyable to listen to. I agree that her remarks often betray a narrow-minded perspective of the world and I certainly don't agree with her views and politics but there's never anything vicious about her comments.

Radio 2 offers a wide complement of presenting styles as we know - however very few offer such apparent personal insights into their life as Sarah (with perhaps the exception of Janice). I find her stories in a morning quite loveable and seemingly of an era that has either passed or never came. I think it's because she seems to find the humour in the details of life and she finds some remarkable details to pass onto the listener. Okay, so she doesn't know much about music but neither does Wogan - radio presenting has a place for more than just music presenters, even on a 'music network'.

I do find the rather hateful comments from some people a little jarring. Her comments that have been bordeline racist are worrying, I agree, but my impression is that they don't come from a dark place but rather a misunderstanding of how her comments can act as support and provocation to those who do have issues with people from different cultures. Ultimately, her comments actually indicate a love for different cultures and we have to be careful about political correctness leaving us with a fear of foreigners and of our interaction with people from diverse backgrounds rather than an ability to celebrate the uniqueness of every person we meet.

I look forward to waking up to Sarah - she's unpredictable, funny and endearing, to me and I know to others. She is a liability but one I'm glad the BBC are holding on to.

Nick.
