Can we assume that the Wail is reliable source for this story? It is usually not reliable for anything else.

Terry's just dismissed this in less than ten seconds on a "don't believe what you read in the papers" basis.

Since his chatshow for five didn't exactly set the world on fire, neither did the Hamster's for ITV I think and hope that it's just conjecture to fill half a page on a slow news day.

That's plainly not true Iain and you know it.

Sir Alan Sugar has bought Radio 2 in a secret privatisation deal. Terry will be taking part in a special Apprentice Programme Jan/Feb/Mar next year to find his replacement. Sir Alan will be the hirer/firer with Terry and SK acting as his eyes and ears during the tasks.

The shortlist of candidates appearing in the programme at the moment are as follows:-

Alex Lester - the bookies favourite
Wossy
Mo Dutta
Steve Wright
Chris Evans
Danny Baker
Tim Smith
Noel Edmonds
Pete Mitchell
Russell Brand
Richard Hammond
Jeremy Vine

Check out the Coffee Bar next week for more details.Wink

Wossy - you're fired
Mo Dutta - you're fired
Steve Wright - nice one Steve!
Chris Evans - you're definitely fired!
Danny Baker - teaboy
Tim Smith - who?
Noel Edmonds - I'm richer than you
Pete Mitchell - you're fired
Russell Brand - can't afford you now...
Richard Hammond - puppy eyes - you're fired

Perhaps they could do one of those Saturday / Sunday evening shows where Sir Terry sits on a throne (nicked - oops, sorry, that should be borrowed - from another knight of the realm, Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber) and says "Sorry, You're not me!"
Richard Allinson....You could be Sir Terry
Richard Hammond..You Could be Sir Terry
Pete Mitchell........You Could be Sir Terry
Tim Smith ..........You could be Sir Terry
Mo Dutta............You Could be Sir Terry
Noel Edmonds.....You Could be Sir Terry
All the others......You're Not Sir Terry

Well, one of those is clearly out of favour and wouldn't even pass the early audition stage, another one made a hash of things when he tried a comeback covering the Drivetime slot, and gawd help Radio 2's RAJA figures if it were to be any of the others.

Nice one Rachel.

Iain Smith is speculating again. I can't see Terry dropping Radio 2 at his age and go to daytime TV. The last time he did daytime TV it was a total flop thanks to Chris Evans back ground help.

Although you maybe correct in one way Iain, Terry will be leaving in the approx next 5 Years?

Something always happens every two years when Wogans contract is to be renewed at the Beeb. There were speculations that Hammond would be taking over Breakfast at Radio 2 a few weeks back.

What will be next. It be best to wait and see from the horses mouth with these rumours.

I would think at his advanced age Terry would be more likely to retire than take on a new commitment like this, that's not to say he will retire of course, lets just wait and see.

I would despair if it was either Evans or Wossy, Maybe it would be one of the Richards.

Hopefully!

It's about time weekday breakfast was kicked into the 21st century. I would love to hear Johnnie Walker on breakfast because he is, in my opinion, the next best thing to Terry Wogan.

If Richard Hammond succeeds Terry Wogan then I will cease to listen to Radio 2 at breakfast time. I have heard Hammond's previous stints on Radio 2 and I thought they were shocking considering he started his career in radio.

Trouble is, Rachel, as Alex mentioned himself this morning round about four (birds had woken me up) he can only do what he does because he's on when he is - the early hours of the morning, Best Time of the Day whatever - before his successors have to squeeze in newspaper reports, half-hourly news, (longer) travel bulletins, a higher proportion of Playlist music etc.

I can't wait for Terry Wogan to leave - and he can take Sarah Kennedy with him. The pair of them are like stale bread. Both Aled Jones and Johnnie Walker have brought breakfast times back to life. What a refreshing change they are compared to Sarah Kennedy's drivel and Terry Wogan's regurgitated gags and e-mails from the same dozen listeners.

I hope Radio 2 will sound something like this when Wogan leaves:

6.00am Aled Jones
8.00 Johnnie Walker
10.00 Simon Mayo
1.00pm Chris Evans
4.00 Mark Radcliffe
7.00 Stuart Maconie
10.00 Series & Documentaries
12.00 Janice Long
3.00 - 6.00am Alex Lester

So there was a little fire under the smoke after all -
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/2247136/Terry-Wogan-to-replace-Richard-and-Judy-on-Channel-4.html

But he's not giving up the morning job just yet.

That's all very well - but who will replace him? Another Channel 4 employee/z-list celebrity, or even worse, George Lamb?

Really looking forward to TW retiring from the breakfast show-I thought his contract ran out in 2009 so am counting down the days now.

I'm sure Chris Evans is the successor. He will be the ideal replacement.

All the best CE.

But he doesn't like breakfast shows, especially on Fridays, after all, he's been sacked from them twice already. No, your other best mate Richard Allinson would be a good successor if Sir Terry should hang up his headphones. I don't think he will just yet.

Hi There-Clearly whilst RA would be a perfect choice imho, he is not going to get this gig whilst Douglas is in charge.

CE has supposedly turned over a new leaf-he would be the best choice by far from the current talent pool of FULL time presenters from the R2 payroll.

I really do hope TW is given his retirement party/P60 soon-how much longer do we have to put up with his outdated show format.

Does anyone think there's any chance of Johnnie Walker taking on the breakfast show permanently if Chris chooses to stay with drivetime? I agree that Chris would be Douglas' first choice but he has mentioned on a number of occasions how he appreciates the lifestyle that drivetime allows him and that breakfast would not. Then again, like all broadcasters, he probably wants to go where the audience is...but for how long. Chris may have turned over a new leaf but it seems he still loves his late nights...I suppose he'll have to weigh his priorities.

Nick.

Johnnie Walker was superb on his last stint in the breakfast slot but would that spark remain if he did it week in week out?? I don't know but I know I'd prefer Johnnie to do it than Chris.

Wogan has got the BBC over the barrel like a lot of other broadcasters. He's not going to go yet. The only one theory Radio 2 haven't got anyone to replace the old tog yet?

I really doubt it. If you were the controller of R2 and you had to replace your 70-something star DJ, would you choose someone who is already in his mid 60s?

They'll be looking for someone younger and with a high media profile.

We can only dream of JW getting the permanent gig! You're right, Nick, all rests on CE's decisions, which is surely a sign of a world gone mad. Thing is, I can't see him staying on Drivetime for years to come. Sure he's been successful, but he's never really settled anywhere long term. something has always changed after a couple of years or so. Equally, on breakfast, I indeed wonder whether he would get up every weekday. I don't think he's turned over a new leaf at R2, he's still relatively new compared to many of the regular presenters.

RA won't get it, and I doubt either CE or JW want it. Needs to be a high
profile radio personality who will bring a younger audience to R2 while not annoying the OAPs. Might I suggest Neil Fox from Magic 1054 who
is amongst the most popular breakfast show presenters in the London area and who has just won a prestigious commercial radio award or
alternatively Simon Bates a previous R2 man but has successfully crossed
the divide to R1 and then Classic FM. With the Clasic FM group in the midst of a takeover perhaps he might be tempted ?

Lets have some real talent on this slot-how about Chris Tarrant with Richard Allinson as his warm up act.
