Eight records played on Ken Bruces show from 11 o'clock onwards:-
Kelly Rowland
Robbie Williams
Madonna
Genesis
Rihanna
Enrique Iglesias
Terence Trent Darby
David Jordan
Seven records played on CD CV:-
Kiki Dee
First Class
Sex Pistols
Patti Smith
Glenn Campell
David Bowie
Small Faces
In my opinion Kens choices were boring predictable and mostly songs that I would never listen too with a complete lack of diversity, whereas the CD CV had great variety and some great tracks that yet again will hardly ever be played.
Does anyone else feel the same way as I and my work colleagues do and if so why are we totally ignored by BBC Radio? |

Difficult to comment really, without knowledge of the titles of the seven tracks on CD CV (What is that, incidentally?). With the exception of the Pistols the artists are just as likely to be heard on Radio 2, even Ken Bruce - the sequence of his you picked out was unfortunately weak, though Genesis' Trick of the Tail is not what you would call a regularly played item, and ignores the fact that treats from Donald Fagen, The Who, Rickie Lee Jones and Harold Melvin were also played. _________________ Ron |

Ah-ha. Well, now:-
Amoureuse, Beach Baby, Pretty Vacant, Because The Night, Rhinestone Cowboy, The Prettiest Star, Itchycoo Park. If he'd made it eight it would have been Kelly Rowland again.
Apart from Bowie's I'd say they were just as predictable. _________________ Ron |

You are kidding? It's on every other week!

Again, these are annoyingly regular and not even that good (especially Rickie Lee Jones: Chuck E's In Love is one of the worst songs ever made). |

Whatever. They're all overplayed and predictable, then, and it's the same whether it's Ken Bruce, or Steve Wright, or whoever sits in for them, or supposedly listeners' choice (in fact, especially listeners' choice when you consider Steve's Sunday show).
If we don't like it there are still some alternatives on digital radio, though not providing in the one place a satisfyingly broad range. _________________ Ron |

Maybe you don't like it, but one of the worst songs ever made? I think that's a trifle unfair.
Good of Ken to point out that the rather excellent drummer is the very same to be found on "50 ways to leave your lover" _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I assume CD CV gets the just-under 7m listeners that usually tune into Steve's show.

No, it's one of the few songs that makes me reach for the 'off' button - as I did yesterday. It just goes right through me like fingernails down a blackboard. And once you've heard the first 20 seconds you've heard it all yet it annoyingly goes on for another 3 minutes at least. |

Oh I see, how silly of me, CD CV is where the listeners choose the music, a bit like all request Friday on Friday Drivetime and Listeners' Library on Alex's show.
Well, if playing the tracks that the listeners choose, isn't listening to the listeners - I don't know what is! |

It clocks in at 3.28
It's a corny pop song, a Guilty Pleasure, though obviously not for you, Ian. Even Joni Mitchell was allowed one of those. _________________ Ron |

Blimey. Led Zeppelin, Frank Sinatra, Motorhead, The Streets and the Korgis on the CD CV this afternoon. All the obvious ones, though.
Ah. Now Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. _________________ Ron |

yes, it was a good selection.. I was busily painting the underside of a balcony at the time. My paint strokes speeded up when Ace of Spades came on!
I like that track by "The Streets" although I can understand why some don't....
Again, I find Mark and Emma very entertaining. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I was happy for Fish to be on Tracks Of My Years, though there was a feeling of playing the most bleeding obvious tracks by his favourite acts - Wondrous Stories by Yes for example.
They should have made Emma Forbes do a co-presenting job with Fish next week! _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

I would say this was a particular good day for CD CV, most days it's as limited and predictable as a lot of R2, and KB certainly isn't as bad as others as occasionally he plays some good stuff, who else has played Eno's This ?
Interestingly artists like the Sex Pistols & Patti Smith didn't get played much on R1 in their hayday, except by Peely etc, but now are acceptable, well their hit singles are. |
